Extended display connection issues F6

Hi all,

I am having a hard time getting the Extended Display option work consistently with my F6 Pro. There are a few outcomes when trying to connect

  • Simply works. This is happening quite rarely
  • F6 recognizes the E530 and says it connected, but the E530 does not recognize the watch and hangs in the Extended Display Menu
  • F6 connects to E530, then E530 freezes up, becomes unresponsive and has to be reset manually.

It is super frustrating, especially as I am using the ED feature for triathlons and once done with the swim and heading out the transition zone I have no time to re-pair, turn-off, exit menu and so on.

Interesting side note, I had the same issue with my previous Fenix 5.

Anyone has any ideas?

Thanks

  • Yes, I have the 6x pro solar and I have the same problem I am looking for a solution.

  • Hadn't had any problems with ED, until a tri a couple of weeks ago where it dropped out half way through the ride. Backed out of the ED menu on the Edge, re-entered the ED menu, was good for the rest of the ride. Annoying, and I'm not sure how much attention I was paying to my surroundings, but an OK fix.

I have a brick session programmed for Sunday, will pay closer attention to it then.

One suggestion would be to (in the comfort of your own home) delete the ED pairing on both devices then re-pair.

Edit: this is with F6 Pro.

  • I have the same issue with my new epix. I hope, Garmin will fix this soon!

Maybe the problem is at the phone side of things? Epix still listed in the Bluetooth devices settings? No specific idea, no experience with this particular problem and not an expert. But the messages get through to the watch via the phone connection.

  • I have the same issue with FR935. It happened recently in 3 triathlons... I had to continue the race just watching the data on my wrist what is unconfortable...

  • I exited the Extended Display menu on the Edge then opened ED again, and it was OK for the rest of the ride.

It doesn't fix the underlying issue of dropouts, but it does mean your data is visible out front again, and not at an awkward angle on your wrist.

  • Thanks.
It's not perfect but, as you said, is better than try tl check the data in the wrist when in aerobars.
We hope that Garmin could fix the issue... soon :-)

  • Similar issue happened to my Garmin Forerunner 945, The Edge 530 keep searching the watch even both connected / paired before

  • Same problem with edge 530 and epix.  The screen works great for a while then I get the yellow "pause" border color and it hangs the rest of the ride.  The yellow border never goes away after that.
