Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your Edge 530 device to your computer using the micro-USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip Edge530_723Beta.zip folder.
  3. Copy the GUPDATE.GCD file from the Edge530_*** distribution folder to the \Garmin folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  4. If there is a GPS_*** folder, place the 006B310706.GCD file into the \Garmin\RemoteSW folder of the device. Please note, not all Beta releases will include an update.
  5. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the Edge, and wait for the update to finish.
  6. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, follow the above steps but place the GUPDATE_710.GCD file in the \Garmin folder. Rename the file to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device.
NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • tested today... One disconnect, but everything got disconnected: HR, Quarq, Speed, Varia. All at once. Self-reconnected couple of seconds later.

  • What about biggest fonts ? Bigger screen of 530 is useless with smallest fonts than 520 !

Datafield fonts are too small !!!

  • So for some reason they're not getting rid of Virtual Partner.   I think all the navigation stuff seems to be great.

Something I don't fully understand . . . . So - if you're navigating a course and wearing headphones and have your phone - the 530 will communicate with the phone - and then you get turn by turn in your ears.

I have a Varia  - why won't my garmin communicate with my phone and then alert me to cars in my headphones?

  • I suspect as new Varia can do this with its own phone app this is never going to happen.  The frequency of the beeper on the 530 is almost impossible for me to hear when riding so I'd really like this too (and am not going to spend £170 on a new unit)

  • Yep - the new one can.  But this is easy to do on the old one . . . Just like the 530’s turn by turn - which is controlled from the connect app. Typical

  • I agree with you 100% - I was surprised that it wasn't there when it came out and even more surprised it's never been added.   The Varia is sold as a safety device but does not address with hearing issues.

  • Sorry Garmin, this is not an "improvement", started trying 7.23 today and I don't wish to harp on about the direction arrows but they are gross and there is still no option switch to turn them off, if this is the case in the final version I will not be upgrading nor I expect a lot of people in my club. We do a lot of long distance, multi-day / night / multi-night rides and a clear uncluttered map is a priority. Not only do the arrows get in the way of viewing the route line / junctions etc but if the route is an out & back then you get arrows going in both directions. Please a switch so the MTBers who seem to like these can have them and those that don't can turn them off. Noting the Indoor Course mode issue seems fixed, Thanks,

  • I'm spamming everywhere I can, begging You Garmin devs and whoever is responsible.

If you don't want to lose riders to wahoo, work on the garmin app to let us make changes for the egde via phone, like the wahoo can do.
Changing settings on the 530 is so tedious. I get that you wan't me to buy the more expensive model with touchscreen, but this is just cruel.

  • You are a bit slow or your colleagues are bad at inforrming you:

”Changes made from version 7.23 to 7.24:

    • Fixed an issue with calculating course routes on 3rd party maps.”
