VO2Max no longer updating: FW 7.10 and Vivomove Luxe FW 3.90

I'm encountering an interesting problem: my VO2max values won't update and maybe it's related to the Garmin watch or a platform problem. That's why I replied to https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/healthandwellness/f/vivomove-luxe-style/257702/vo2max-no-longer-updating---software-v3-90---vivomove-style but why I'm also asking it here.

Here's what I do:

  • Start a cycling activtiy on the Vivomove Luxe, FW 3.90. No phone GPS. I use the Luxe tracking so that the intensity minutes are recorded as the Edge won't track the minutes.
  • Start a cycling activity on the Edge 530, FW 7.10. Garmin heart rate monitor (*** strap) is always connected to the Edge; HR is also detected and recorded.
  • VO2max is stuck on Apr 15, although I cycled multiple times since then.
  • Same for walking activities, which I track using the Luxe.

Anyone has the same problem with VO2max not updating?

Thanks!

  • First cycling activity after fully resetting the watch (default + delete watch data) and the VO2max was updated. So, this problem might be solved and seems to be a problem of the watch and/or the platform, not the Edge.

You will not need to start an activity on your vivomove, as long as it is still seeing your elevated heart rate, your intensity minutes will be counted. Of course you can record on both, but then you will have duplicate activities to deal with after the fact.

The below link outlines the criteria for when VO2 Max values are updated on our devices. It is possible you did not meet the required criteria, but you then got a value after a reset since it is technically a "new" reading from a reset device.

So I thought and so it was with my "old" vivomove HR. My vivomove Luxe OTOH won't detect the elevated heart rate correctly if I don't start an activity. Example: Edge 530 with HR strap records 180bpm, vivomove Luxe only measures 140bpm. This happens during the whole activity, so that the heart rate diagram of the day is incorrect and intensity minutes won't get the right value. If I start an activity, the vivomove starts reporting the correct heart rate after some minutes. Maybe, my watch doesn't autodetect ("MoveIQ") the activity - in fact, it has never started a MoveIQ cycling activity, whereas for walking and running, it has.

After an activity, I discard the vivomove activity, so that I only have one in Connect. It's a workaround and I don't like it, but this is how at least my watch works.

Thanks for the link and the explanation. I met criteria #2 several times before the reset - but it stopped working suddenly nevertheless. It has been working since the reset though.
