Creating and uploading new course during ride

I recently was midway through a ride and needed to change my route. I stopped the navigation on the garmin, mapped and saved new route using ridewithgps. The garmin would not let me access new files without having to save my current ride. I also uploaded the map to my garmin app but still was not able to start the new navigation without having to save my current ride. Is there a way around this? Seems like a feature that should be available, having the ability to map a different route midway through a ride without having to stop and save the ride you're currently on. Please please let me know if anyone has had the same problem or has a solution. THANKS!

I appreciate the response and have downloaded the widget. I am still unable to navigate a newly created route midway through a ride. When I go to Connect IQ, it says there is an activity in progress and to stop/save the activity before opening a Connect IQ app. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

The IQ icon at the lower right shows you IQ apps, which you can't run during an activity (you can only use widgets during an activity).

You access widgets differently.

On a normal screen, swipe down from the top.

Move between widgets using the < and > at the bottom of the screen.

Hide the widget screen by using the ^ at the bottom of the screen.

Note that you have to add your RWGPS account info (email and password) using the widget settings on Garmin Connect Mobile (or Garmin Express on a PC).
