Switching between heart rate and power zones in the middle of a training plan

I am currently doing one of the training plans outside using my heart rate zones. I would like to do one of the training intervals on my indoor trainer and switch to power zones. Do I simply edit the workout to the power zones or is the workout actually different because it is inside

  • Theoretically, your power zones should be the same whether you are inside or outside. Practically, your power zones will probably be a bit different depending on if you are inside or outside, because of environmental conditions, bike position, etc.

    For my training, if I have a interval based workout, I do that inside. If I have just a ride, like the Zone 2 Aerobic Garmin training plan ride, I'll do that outside. In your case, if you're riding outside by HR and inside by power, maybe add two training plans to your calendar, one based on HR and one based on power?
