Strava routes no lonoger syncing as Courses, have tried all suggestions

Things I have tried:

- Disconnecting and reconnecting Strava app permissions

- Hard resetting my Edge 530

- Disconnecting and reconnecting my phone

- Manually upgrading to v7.10

When I sync my device, it says "Download complete" on the Edge, but the Courses remain empty.

None of these worked. What else can I try?

  • Hi Blake,

I am experiencing this issue. Your support would be very welcome.

    Nick

  • On Strava’s website they say the courses have to be public for Garmin. True? Kinda defeats using routes that start from the house. They don’t have that requirement for Wahoo.

  • 2521460 you can export a tcx file of the route and save it in the NewFiles folder in the Garmin, when you turn the garmin on it will create a fit course file and store it in the courses folder.

ps any new files(fit or tcx) are placed in NewFiles folder, your garmin reads them and moves and registers them, just check the folder via USB when your connected to Garmin Express and see all the updated files for segments etc.

  • I have this problem and done the above. I used to be able to syn routes fra Strava, but is suddently stopped. Can you help? Garmin is very welome to reach out to me directly.

  • are you staring the route (or segment),

you should see a star beside the title, click on that, so it changes from a hollow star to an orange star on your strava route,

this is how strava syncs back with your garmin connect account, also it may depend on your paid subscription to strava.

  • Yes - the route is marked with a "star". And I have tried to toggle the star - and the route is  "public".  And I have a paid subscription to Strava

  • If it isn't working as it should log out of strava and GC and log in to both again. Make sure you don't have more than one strava and one GC account with different log in credentials but if you do, make sure the Strava account you are starring courses on is linked to the GC account you have your Edge linked to for synchronisation. If so unlink strava and GC and link again and see if those courses you have starred turn up in GC on your PC or phone app.  If they are in GC but not syncing to your Edge then unlink the edge and phone and set up the link again. If still not working Garmin phone support might be able to tell you what files on the edge might need fixing.

Sorry if you have done all this already. Very frustrating but it should work and when it does it's so much quicker than downloading gpx files and copying them to the Edge.

  • thank you for input. Yes - I have tried all above. It was working in the fall of 2021, but stopped workning for no reason (as I know of)

  • there is a possibility that you might have a corrupt fit file in your GARMIN\Courses folder, a suggestion is first backup all those files, then eject the USB device and unplug the cable, plug in again the USB and let garmin connect sync the routes, files should appear in the GARMIN\NewFiles folder and you cannot see the real name. I did this as a test I un starred the routes on strava and then starred, they appeared in the course folder(after unplug/plug) and you might have to do this for each route. also try with 530 as like your want to start using a route and scroll thru each one and see if it gives the details as it has to read the file to get the details

  • Maybe I have solved it. Removed 2-factor authentication on the Garmin account. Chanced the segments on Garmin to Garmin segments and the changed it back to Strava segments. Then the Garmin ui asked me to login to Strava and accept to sync routes. And now it works. Will wait some days before I switch to 2-factor auth. again...
