Strava routes no lonoger syncing as Courses, have tried all suggestions

Things I have tried:

- Disconnecting and reconnecting Strava app permissions

- Hard resetting my Edge 530

- Disconnecting and reconnecting my phone

- Manually upgrading to v7.10

When I sync my device, it says "Download complete" on the Edge, but the Courses remain empty.

None of these worked. What else can I try?

  • This might help, I found that longer course names cause a problem. Not sure what the critical length is but I have shortened all the name to 10 characters or less and have no issues.

  • Sorry if you know this but only starred routes sync to the edge. If the Strava routes you want on the edge are already starred try  unstarring and restarring them.

  • As others have mentioned, you will need to have the desired courses Starred, or favorited. Have you tried this and you still aren't seeing these courses on your Edge?

Our support guide on this feature can be found here

  • Yes, I did try star-unstar.

I called Garmin support, and they cleared my Connect sync queue, which fixed the issue. They said it did seem like a bug that I reached that state, and that there were a few other cases of this happening. Their engineers are going to investigate it.

  • As mentioned unstar, star the course on Strava, in the App->Training->Courses->Go on the course you want, select Send to Device. Connect the device and wait for the update message.

Note that you can have 100 courses at max on the device. If you are at that limit the device will tell you that courses are update, yet, nothing happens. You must delete a (or more) course(s) first.

Does the limit make sense: Nope (backwards compatibility to 10 year old devices?) -- yet, it is still present. Same for segments.

  • If un-star->star isn't working for you, you could always export the course as a GPX or TCX and then drop it in your NewFiles directory on your Edge. Granted, this isn't nearly as elegant as doing so through the app, but it works reliably.

  • im also having problems with this.  The courses on my Garmin 530 bear no resemblance to my starred strava routes....something seems to have gone awry
ps i have synched my edge to garmin connect many times but its just not working

  • so garmin do not reply to these concerns it seems?

  • Clearing the "sync queue" fixed things for me. You can do that by logging into Connect on desktop (not on mobile), and clicking on the top right watch icon.

Next to the Edge 530 there would be a little (1) circle with an X next to it. Clicking the X will clear out the sync queue.

In my case, I believe a bad live segment was causing the sync queue to clog. I un-starred all my live segments, hopefully that will keep things fixed.

  • i dont know about the OP but this wasnt the case for me. No sync queue and actually no problem with segments syncing...only courses.
