If I buy the 530 in the US where I do most of my riding, will it have or can I get maps of europe where I ride occasionally?

Buy in the US and it will have North America maps. If you go to Europe just compile an OSM map of where you're going...very easy, free (donate if you appreciate it which you will!), the file will be way…
The only downside to the standard OSM maps is that popularity routing is not enabled.
It’s not a problem for me as I always make my routes at home and never on the fly, but just something to keep in mind…
You will need to purchase them separately. Up until the recent map update, they both fitted on the device. The newer maps are larger so you'd need to swap between them.

Open Street Maps. Go here

I use Routable Bicycle. Choose what country map you want or just select tiles covering the area you want, enter your email and wait for the magic to happen. Then follow the directions to put the map in the Garmin folder of your device. Do a test of your home area to see how it works. If you do this test disable all the Garmin maps on the Edge and just enable your local OSM map. It should work fine. For me OSM maps are better than the preinstalled Garmin maps. Very useful and helpful.
Much more updated than Garmin as it is updated by the community of OSM users.
I, for example, follow every ride I do (even those I do not use navigation for) with verification in the OSM site that all my tracks are there and connected well.
