Edge 530 cadence inaccurate

Hi,

I've got 2 cycling computers from Garmin, old 25 and new 530.

During my indoor ride I noticed that cadence displayed on 25 is almost stable +/- 1 when i cycle consistently with e.g. 90 or 100 RPM, but on 530 cadence in jumps ~85-93 often a few times a second.

Is there any setting I could use?

  • ah yes, i found, the Edge 25 cant record with 1sec just with smart... Then it will be different but the 530's cadence is good as i checked, this small fluctuation is normal with gyroscope (and hard to pedal with very steady rpm, need to concentrate and on Satori it is harder a bit due to the deadspots because it has small flywheel, and if You dont have perfect circle pedaling style your cadence will be not constant through the 360degree and will fluctuate a bit. Probably with a magnet based cadence sensor it should be steadier a bit

  • Ok, so we can say that 530 is a bit too accurate for my pedaling style ;) hard to guess what's the real avg is when it jumps a few times per second

    I will check with Satori.

Thank you for looking into that.

  • All gyroscope based cadence sensors are more sensitive than a magnet version because the magnet version is calculating your cadence from the elapsed time during 2 spins always on the same place, the gyroscopic is measuring it much frequent during 360degree (4HZ , 8HZ, maybe 64HZ and averaging it per sec,  maybe awatherall knows it better, and the exact "measuring place" is always different throught the 360degree). The Satori estimated cadence is much worse , that is trying to estimate it from the pulsating of your pedaling , sometimes it is close to reality, sometimes far off, so better to forget it :)

  • I understand this, but still its weird

I dont get the point to use data between 0-5 rpm, its worth nothing; and provide an unaccurate average RPM
