Is "Training Status / Load" really only possible on newer edge models?

I use my edge 530 on one bike and an edge 1000 on another bike, but i only get the detailed training analysis above when using the 530. I use the same PM pedals and see the expected TSS / IF data. I was just wondering why it would be to do with the unit, when surely the file being analysed is just a load of PM and HR data, which both units collect ?

Thanks

  • Its a feature of the new 530. I also have it on my fenix 5+ despite it has the same sensors as my old Fenix 3, which did not show the training load. I guess If it where available on the old models we would not buy new toys, would we?

  • That was my thinking too! Most of this stuff, though, could also be done by garmin connect, couldn't it ?

  • It could be done by Connect but Garmin have decided to have the units themselves do the calculations.

  • It does seem that the non 530 activities are being downloaded by the 530 and analysed there, then synched into GC in some form. The 7 day exercise load number seem to include the non 530 activities albeit the day by day charts in the reports don't show anything for those activities. So, in terms of training analysis, it is being included.

  • I've been digging into this for a while.

Only newer models support Training Status, yes.

In the meanwhile, older models can provide data for new models to do the calculation.  You need to do as follow:

You just need to make sure the main new model Physio TrueUp is On (older model not important on/off, or is it exsit this switch?)

All your units sync to a same Garmin connect account.

After you sync the old models, you will need to sync 530 at least twice:

1st sync: to sync all rides from other units into 530, and it will calculate, now you can see updated Training Status on 530 but not on Garmin Connect.

2nd sync: sync back the updated Training Status from 530 to Garmin Connect.

then you can get a better view on your phone.

then after middle night it will gone from you my days view, you will need to sync 530 again to bring it back.

Yes, all these things should be collected and calculated on Garmin Connect, but Garmin is a hardware dealer so everything done on your device, the Garmin Connect only help to display to you, not any calculations.
