Issues pairing Bontrager ION PRO RT and Flare RT to new Garmin 530

I can't seem to get either of my two new lights to create a stable light network with my new 530. One or both are constantly getting disconnected from the light network. I've tried removing them and adding them individually and both at the same time with no success. My 530 software is also up to date. Further, if a light is identified on the network it sometimes has the name other rather than tail light or head light.

  • Could you please elaborate? I really want to like it. But i am wondering if the price is justified. I mean i wanted to control it via Garmin but if it's just a "dumb" light, why should i pay 50 bucks.

  • Bought now in 2023, and it's unreliable.

    - wrong battery status

    - headlight won't changes modes from the Garmin screen, especially the flash mode never worked

    - most important: connection issues, the longer you let Garmin sleep, the less chance is lights will then connect (next day typically zero connected so i always ride with lights off - thanks - and then fix at home by basically just searching sensors and cancelling)

As my return period is ticking, will test it further just to see what's the potentional ANT standby (hopefully weeks), and then return it. Sadly there's nothing else like that.

  • If it's any consolation, I eventually forked out for a new Garmin front light and GArmin radar with camera, in the hope that Garmin 530 would communicate seemlessly with Garmin lights, but guess what, it does not! The front light keeps getting disconnected, same as the Bontrager Ion Pro light did. I've now gone back to using Flare HT in the back again, as it seems to be the only one that stays connected (although battery status is wrong) and the Vario rada/camera unit is massive, and I manually operate the Garmin front light! The whole light control feature is hopeless!

  • After days of testing I don't need to return the lights because they work with Smart Bike Lights app without any tricks. Just write down the sensor numbers, remove them from sensors and let the app control them. Bingo.

  • thanks for this, saved my sanity !
