Version 6.2 and 6.0 bad GPS

I had version 5.5 and everything worked fine with the device; 2 months ago it was updated to version 6.0 and then to 6.2 from there I see that the GPS does not work correctly. To solve, I lowered the version from 6.2 to 5.5 but I see that there is also a GPS version, therefore the question is, is there a way to change the GPS version?

Thanks for you advice.

  • I believe my GPS Chipset updated automatically to 4.50 via Garmin Connect Mobile, just like the firmware updates.  But there is always the option of hooking the Edge to a computer via USB and running Garmin Express to sync the device.  It should update to latest stuff when that happens.  What GPS Chipset does your device show?

I have the last GPS Chipset software is version 4.5.. I belive that is the problem the version GPS.. SomeOne have the GPS 2.5 file.

  • Agree, prior to 6.x the GPS was much more responding,,,

  • same here, I had very good GPS data until the recently, now it's all over the place and I am losing the signal very often, and the position is wrong on the map.

I've open a case with support, who suggested I should try to re-install the firmware, which I will try to do so.

  • I have downgraded the firmware to 5.5 and now the GPS looks all good. I will do a few rides to confirm. Then will attempt to upgrade again to 6.20

  • keep us posted about your eperience/progress plse

    How do you downgrade?

  • I've done a few rides with firmware 5.5 and it was fine. No issues with GPS data. I've now upgraded to 6.20 again, done one short ride and it looks fine. No speed display wobble, no speed jumping when I am stopped at a traffic light. The GPS trace looks ok, a few jumps here and there but that would be expected in a dense urban environment. It looks like fixed.

I don't know what was the issue nor how it got fixed.. but it seems ok now. You might want to try the same thing if you experience similar problem.

    1. Downgrade to firmware 5.5. Manual process. You'll have to reconfigure everything on the 530.  Firmware and instructions here : https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-530/226369/new-edge-530-version-5-50-now-available

    2. do a few rides

    3. upgrade again to 6.20, using Garmin Express and following instructions as usual

  • Pitching in here to report that after my GPS had been working flawlessly I've seen problems with it after this upgrade.   The track shows that it seems to happen with corners cut, especially after stops.  Fairly severe in some cases.  The locations all had very good sky visibility with some nowhere near a building or obstruction.

  • Unfortunately, I see bad GPS data again and same behaviour. Frequent loss of GPS signal, speed wobbling, showing speed even if I am at a stop light.

I will downgrade to 5.5 again and keep it that way for a while...   I've raised the case with Garmin and let's hope they can find the root cause
