Is there a quick way to switch activity screens on the Edge 530 prior to a ride?

I like to switch it up at times using different screen but right now the only way I know how to is Menu-Settings-Activity Profiles-Road-Data Screens-Screen 1-Layout and data fields...and then scroll through the one I want to use.   Seems a bit cumbersome and was wondering if there is some type of shortcut I am missing?

  •  Lets say instead of the 6 data fields I only want to see 4.  That is what I mean (see 2 screens below).  Anyway I had a long conversation with a Garmin support guy and he figured out one way to cut down the steps a little. Hold  down the enter (top right) button from the main screen for a few seconds (not click on it -hold it for a bit) and it brings you straight to the "Select Activity Screen."  I also found out that you could also switch from one screen to another in the middle of a ride (while keeping all the ride data) but there is no shortcut -you have to do all the steps I mentioned initially.

I don't think there are many calls to be able to do what you want.

It's a case of "you can't please everybody".

Seems like it would be easier to just create a different profile.

  • Agreed.  Fortunately my call to Garmin did address it to a point.

  • I’m not sure I quite understand the question either, but, you can set multiple screens per activity type.
When you select “Road” in the screenshot for example, I have 9 or more custom screens available. (More if routing, on a segment etc)

    • 10 fields main
    • 10 fields totals
    • 8 fields lap data
    • 5 fields basic
    • Map
    • Light information
    • Di2 information
    • Power phase data
    • Power data

I just scroll through them with the up and down buttons on the left of the unit or the buttons on my Di2 shifters “while riding”.

Set them under Activity Profiles > Data Screens.

Then I have a completely different set of custom screens stored under 2 other activity profiles

    • Gravel - 5 custom screens
    • Indoor - 3 custom screens
  • From the screen on the left, click the top right button > arrow down to Activity Profile > arrow down to Data Screens. Set as many screens as you want for that profile. Select them while riding just by using the up and down arrows from the data screen.

    Try this https://youtu.be/YlIyas0c9kQ

Just click on “add new” to add screen 2, screen 3 etc

  • He doesn't want more screens.

He wants to be able to change the number of fields on a screen easily before riding.

    It's an unusual request.

The easiest thing to do is create a different profile.

  • Fair enough, I still don't understand it, but fair enough, although isn't that the same as just having a second screen with more or less fields on it that you can swap between while riding?

  • Ones one screen; the other is two screens. So, no, it's not the same.

I understand it but there doesn't seem to be a compelling benefit to it.

He was asking if there was so!e existing way to do what he wants.

There isn't because it makes the UI more complicated for something not many people want or would find that useful.

    ========================

The way to do this is through an IQ datafield. Though, that might not quite work the way he wants.

The datafield would display subfields. So, changing the number of fields would entail changing the data for a field (long press, select a datum to display).

The map dashboard datafield is an example.

  • It’s still 2 screens, just that one method takes one button press, the other takes about 20 to get to.

If all the OP wants is to switch between the two screens shown above with 4 fields or 6, then that’s just 2 screens in the Road profile.

  • What's two screens?

The IQ datafield idea displays multiple pieces of data in one big field. The number of screens doesn't change.

With the IQ data field, you can change between 1 datum and 4 or 6 fairly easily. I've done it trying out the two versions of the mapdashboard datafield.
