Best practice question - course synchronization

As I know it is still not possible to synchronize EDGE with Garmin Connect Mobile during active activity. My typical "workflow" during ride is:
- Start activity just after start my ride and keep it running with autopause during all my ride this day
- Let assume that during this ride I need to create track because I want to go to somewhere using navigation in EDGE. I am using GCM to create the course.
- Next I am marking this new course to "Send to device". It show me information that this course will be sent to my device during next synchronization
And in this moment problem begins because synchronization will not occur as long as my activity is active. I do not want to stop it and have 100 km ride split in many parts in Garmin Connect and Strava.
What is your solution for this problem?

PS. I know solution with IQ Wideget "GRouteLoader Widget" but it is very inconvenient. It requiring to download course first go to Garmin Connect website in browser on phone. Then extract part or URL of this course and then use it on GRoute Loader widget to download it to EDGE.

Best regards

Arek

  • I use the routeCourse Connect IQ app.

    https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/b7efc9ca-5446-4e1c-bc53-474e97f376ac#0

I use ridewithgps to create a course and then pin that course. Any pinned courses in ridewithgps will appear on the routeCourse Connect IQ app on the Edge 530 and I can then choose to download that particular course locally on the Edge 530.

  • Thank you. Looking not bad but very similar to "GRouteLoader Widget".
Still missing easy solution to just create course on phone, sync it by BT with device and go (of course during active activity).

I understand Garmin way of thinking "if you are on long ride and need short ride from your current position to somewhere then plan it on device (not your phone with big screen)" but I am not sure is it what users in 2020 are looking for Disappointed

  • Today I was looking on it closer and I found that routeCourse is not IQ Connect Widget but it is an App. The main difference is that Widget you can use during active activities on EDGE device but App you can not. So in result using routeCourse you can not upload course to EDGE during long ride without breaking saving your whole track.

It seems still the only solution is GRouteLoader Widget with all limitation it have Disappointed

Garmin please give us possibility to upload track created on Garmin Connect Mobile during active activity on EDGE Slight smile (like all Wahoo users have it).
