Cannot downgrade from 6.00

Hello,

After more than a year, I'm still getting buggy updates. @Garmin: I don't need them, by all means. Please, stop treating me as one of your testers (if you have any).

I know, it was my fault. Why I updated to 6.00?!? Still don't know. 5.50 was pretty fine for me.

So, here my problem. I've been trying to downgrade to 5.50, but I can't. When I follow the instructions reported here, I'm prompt for the earlier version to be applied. After I confirm that, it looks like it's installing the firmware, but after the reboot it's still on 6.00.

Could somebody please have any suggestions?

Thanks and Regards

  • The beta 5.68 also contains a 5.50 gcd (firmware) file.

unzip and place the gupdate_550.gcd on your 530 in the Garmin folder.
rename it to GUPDATE.GCD and reboot your 530.
This should revert your device to 5.50.
After this create a dummy GUPDATE.GCD and GUPDATE.TMP in your Garmin folder.
Hopefully this will prevent GC from updating your 530...
Anyway, you can always revert to 5.50 again.
(Reverting may mess up your settings)

  • Doesn't seem you read the OP's post properly...

He followed the instruction as outlaid by Garmin and even posted the same link...

@ Try backing up your Garmin folder. Then doing a factory reset, and try again the downgrade.

I downgraded successfully even with Web Updater which at the point in time didn't have V6.0 yet. Perhaps see what version Garmin Web Updater has available.

You can restore your settings as outlined in THIS page.

  • I don't think I did any different as before, but I managed to downgrade to 5.50.

Only one thing comes to my mind... As you suggested I gave the WebUpdater a try. but since at this point it's on the latest firmware, it didn't let me do any much. However I suspect that it must have done something underneath because when I tried installing by copying the 5.50's gcd, the downgrade succeeded as expected.

    So, thank you!!!
