An actual positive Garmin story

I appreciate Garmin gets a lot of bashing and often for good reason,   but thought I'd say something positive.

Still on 5.50 firmware.    Have done many century rides recently with no issues.     4iiii single sided power meter.  530 head,  garmin speed and cadence sensor.       Yesterday I rode 150 miles and followed the map screen.

no issues,  no lockups,  no sensor resets.

The only issues I had related to mapping.   I use Strava for planning all my routes and either upload direct via USB lead or use Strava Route app.      Occasionally the device alerts me of a track that is not on the route and occasionally it says do a U turn when I am perfectly on route.

The one annoying thing I found is when you go off course.   the device says "OFF COURSE" at bottom of screen and obscures view of the screen where your current location is,  so its almost impossible to work out where you need to go without using the map browser option.

overall - I am pleased with the device.      I don't use segments and I used Garmin Beacon on my iphone which worked perfectly for 12 hours straight.    I charged the device mid ride for 40 minutes and had plenty of battery left at end of ride - screen brightness on auto.

  • If you see the off course message does pressing a button clear it?  With the 830 tapping the screen clears that message.

  • Confirmed, pressing ok button (top right) clears message.

Rode my return journey the other day.  150 miles and Garmin performed perfectly.  No issues.

FW 5.50.  factory reset done before and after applying firmware.

Still nervous about V6, so sticking with 5.50 for now.
