Rides uploading but segments and routes not syncing

Usually syncing my 530 uploads the ride and any starred segments and routes created.

Two days ago ago I started getting a 'sync failed' notification in Garmin Connect. The ride had been uploaded but no new segments.

This is also happening with a 520 I own.

I have done all the usual - removing devices, disabling/enabling Strava and even removed Garmin Connect and starting from scratch.

i am wondering if it's anything to do with my ancient iphone 5s!

Any help is welcome!

  • Have you considered plugging the unit into a computer running Garmin Express and syncing that way?

    Yes Wongataa, I can do that but just wondering why it has stopped working for me, used to work perfectly.

    Bluetooth is much more convenient when i’m away in the campervan.

  • Ali, did you ever resolve this issue? I’m having the same issue with my 530 now.

  • That makes three of us — I noticed last night on my ride all my segments were missing.   Have checked connect settings; neither Garmin segments or Strava segments will sync.   

  • I wanted to add --  tried resetting Edge, reinstalled Connect for iOS and tried to sync on two different computers with express.   Segments wont sync in any situation.  I am at a loss.

  • This started a couple of weeks ago with my 530 too. It's absolutely frustrating. With Android and the Edge is connected both with bluetooth and wifi. I am now using it as my old 800, connecting via USB and manually syncing.,

  • I was able to resolve my issue.  It turned out to be an issue on Strava’s side of the equation (Garmin was great troubleshooting but took about two weeks). 

    There was an issue with my Strava renewal through the App, Strava needed to manually resync my renewal information on their servers and as soon as they did that, it has worked well after that.  

  • Great to hear. How did you contact Strava? Can you share the wording you/they used, so they know what to do.

  • I’m with iOS so first thing they had me do was check to see if I could get Strava to Restore Purchases in under settings.  This kept failing for me —- 

    My original message to Strava was pretty generic “I’ve been working with Garmin tech support as Strava segments are not being displayed on my Garmin devices. Upon investigation, they have advised “ it looks like this issue was caused on Strava's end when the account/subscription changed. If you can reach out to Strava Support, they will be able to resolve this for you. ”

    I renewed my Strava subscription in May and have not been able to use strava segments or routes on Garmin edge. Although rides and runs sync ok.

    I also provided them an overview of all the steps / troubleshooting I had done.  Reset my Edge, removed strava permissions and added again.

    the weirdest thing they both Garmin and I noticed is that I would enable Strava Segments but then within a few hours they would revert back to Garmin segments without any changes.   Secondly, that no segments  would be shown a under the training section. 

  • Wow thanks for your lengthy answer. I wrote to Strava Customer support, and they handled it in 5 minutes. Now they show up. I hope they will work

    They wrote: " This is happening because Apple has yet to send us payment information.
     
    I went ahead and refreshed your subscription and it is now showing up." 

    I also paid in may! I really do not understand the underlying issue with apple/Strava, but hope it works!!
