edge 530 moto g7

Just had 24 hours of torture trying to pair a 530 with a moto g7. Nothing useful on the garmin forum pages.

Already had a 735xt connected without issues.

Turns out that the latest version of garmin connect won't pair with it. Found this gem on the oneplus forum pages - nice.

You need to uninstall garmin connect

Forget any bluetooth connections with your 530

Install version 4.22 of garmin connect from a mirror (

Yes you will need to select allow potentially unsafe apks to be installed.
The 530 will then pair without issue.
At this point the 735XT won't pair.
So you need to allow automatic updates on garmin connect, update to the latest version and then pair.
The 530 will still re-pair after the app has been updated

Garmin you really need to sort this out. This is a £200+ device let badly down by the software.

  • In your G7, go to settings, apps, all apps, system apps. Select the Bluetooth system app. Clear cache, force stop. Then open GCM app and try to BT pair the E530. This worked for me. I own a G7 Power and E530 and have to repeat the killing and cache cleaning of the BT system app every other day, to be able to BT connect the E530 to the G7.

Thanks, I did try that technique for first pairing but to no avail. Now its initially paired it seems ok at reconnecting so fingers crossed. It was the initial pairing that caused all the issues. If I have to resort to stopping and clearing the BT cache every time I want too use it, then Garmin will be getting it back as not fit for purpose.

  • Maybe Lenovo is to blame for some crap in its G7 BT system app?

:-) Maybe. My 735 watch is just fine. Not sure why the 4.22 version of the GCM app works fine, but the latest version fails on initial pairing only. The underlying BT pair works, its just GCM failing to complete its handshake post that, so doesn't solely look like a BT specific issue. Any fingers crossed my troubles are behind me and I can get some cycling done.

    Thank you for this.

Bloody annoying i had spent hours trying to do get my edge to pair.

  • It seems that the new v4.35 (Sept. 16th) of the Garmin Connect Mobile Android App fixes the BT problems with my Lenovo Moto G7 Power Android 10.

Good news. Thanks for the update.

I have connectivity but not full functionality. It is connected to my edge 530 but does not upload rides and I can not send routes to the device.
