Strava live segments on course missing names using new sync method

I previously used the ConnectIQ app to sync saved routes from strava that included segments I had added to my favourites.

When they came across to my Edge530 I could load the course and see the segments included on the course with the segment name.

Now that the ConnectIQ app has been discontinued and returns an error, I am forced to use the strava-garmin auto sync. Now when loading a course, the segment names are only listed as SEGMENT_START and SEGMENT_END.

Is this a bug?

  • Strava have updated their code to now include the segment name for the segment start. If you make a small change to the course in Strava. Opening it up for editing it and just saving it maybe enough. This will cause the course to be regenerated and sent to Garmin with the additional information. If you then sync it should come down to your Edge,

The Strava Route App should be back up next week.

  • Yes, but now I observed segments with only special character names and a not working live-segment .. (showed 0:01 seconds for the whole time).
Ok, maybe just a single coincidence ..

  • Thanks, this morning I've tried -

    - editing a route in strava that was already on my garmin, saving it. Loaded updated course, segment names still missing

    - creating a new route in strava that is not on my garmin, loading it, segments in list but names still missing.

UPDATE: Ok after updating to the 5.68 beta firmware and trying the process again, the correct segment name is coming through instead of SEGMENT_START, but SEGMENT_END is still listed.

  • Currently the situation got actually worse in my opinion:
The names are still not shown on the preview on the unit, but when a segments triggers it is.
So far so good, yet, sometimes at least the first segment has a wrong name of a random live segment not even on the route. It is not just the name, but the complete segment that is somewhere else. I observed this multiple times, recently yesterday, 15/08/20.
Apparently the unit triggers the live segment correctly.
In live segment mode, seeing the preview countdown with meters to go to the live segment, it, however, expects to be near the segment that is kilometers away. Consequently it remains in the preview until I stop the segment, loosing all segments on the route.
I have no idea whom to contact with bugs like this, that might actually be on the strava side, so I respond to this comment.
