Edge 530 Stuck on a Device Status Screen

Edge has started behaving erratically over the last week or so with the ride timer just suddenly starting of its own accord but I could stop the timer and delete the ride. Then tonight I couldn't always stop the timer and if I did the device kept going into a menu that I have never seen before which had a series of menu options to test the machine. I could not get it out of this menu so kept trying to switch off, do reset as described in manual, do other resets suggested in this forum pressing down lap rest and stop/start buttons etc. Now the only screen I can get access to is a status screen which has 13 fields - software version, temperature, time, backlight, vbat etc etc. I think the device is kaput and it was only purchased on the 17 Oct 2019. I shall now have to waste my time going back to the vendor Halfords and hope they give me a replacement or deal with Garmin Warranty Europe. If anyone has any bright ideas I would like to hear them.

Stay safe out there

  • Update: The menu I haven't seen before has just re-appeared and it has menu items including burn-in test, bi test check info, general information, memory test etc etc

  • Update: Contacted Garmin on phone and was offered a replacement, but not told that it would be a refurbished model. This only came to light when I received the e-mail confirmation. Not impressed with this, as I have only had the device since Oct 2019. Halfords said they would replace with a new model, but there are none available in the local. I will return tomorrow to try and persuade them to give me a refund, so I can purchase a new, probably different brand, elsewhere.

  • Halfords kindly gave me a refund. Now what to buy..........

  • I'm in the exactly same situation. Reseting doesn't work and I'm locked in this screen with burn-in test etc in the menu items... No idea what to do. And my Garmin is quite new, bought it a few months ago

  • Contact Garmin - they are pretty good with warranty replacements.

  • I'm having a lot of headache trying to solve it with Garmin. Their Customer Service in Europe is pretty bad and slow... It's a shame a company like Garmin has such a horrible custom service. It's been now two weeks I sent them the device and I'm still without a date they will send me something -- this after they charging me more than 100 euros saying my device was out of warranty because it had a crack in the glass! The crack in the glass has nothing to do with the fact their software has a bug and stopped working on my device.

  • Same situation here ...

I acquired the device on line at probike  from Portugal (15 months ago) , so I don t even know how to start in order to get it fix it . Terrible choice to acquire a Garmin 530
