Strava Live Segments during Navigation

I am using the 530 with software version 5.50. I also have a strava premium account.

After i had found out, that strava live segments don't work while using the navigation feature I wondered if there is any workaround.

1. Is there a way to pause the navigation before approaching a segment and restarting it afterwards?

2. Will this be solved in one of the future updates?

To be honest, I can't believe, that both features don't work at the same time. Any good news out there?

Thank you!

  • I have read that if you build your route with Strava route builder and push it to your Garmin via Strava app on the Edge, then live strava segments along the route will work as expected.  I have not ever done it to confirm though.

  • As stated above for Strava segments to work while executing a course a course the course needs to be created in Strava and then either synced to Garmin Connect using the new course integration feature or downloaded to the Edge using the connect IQ Strava Route App on the Edge.

  • I've used this once, and after completion of the segment my 530 froze then shut down. It did this for every segment on the route, eventually I turned off navigation.

Course was created in Strava, picked off the "routes" list on my 530 (not through the CIQ app), but it had a Strava symbol next to it.

Routes that I picked from the CIQ app did not bring up any "Live Segments", just ClimbPro.

Thank you for your answers. Yesterday I started a route planned with strava with the IQ-App on my Garmin. I was notified about segments on my route but not one single segment started. It seemed like the starting point hasnt been found. First I came closer to the starting point and then i left it even though the segment was definitely on my route. I later had to abord both segments manually. To me this seems like a bug.

How do you guys see Strava starred routes in the segment folder of garmin? No chance for me to see them. The only option for me is the IQ-App. Any suggestions how to start strava navigations the other way?

    Thank you! Kind regards Nico

just found the route with the strava symmbol in my routes folder. i'll try that next time. it's a little annoying though. With W*hoo i wouldnt have the problem, right?

  • Strava live segments doesn’t work with 5.5FW during navigation. Rode 2000km and none of my favorites segments worked

Sometimes it shows the starting point but segment page freeze and segment never ends

Another issue with live segment is each time you pass under a tunnel, segment is discarded ! Tunnels are very frequent in moutain

Garmin has a lot of work to deliver usable live segments on edges ...

Right. Segments appear. No route BS.

  • Can confirm. Even with routes created on Strava live segments doesn't work when the course is active. It will show me on the map where the segment starts and ends, and sometimes it will let me know my segment time like 10 minutes later but it will never show the live segments page until I stop navigation.

I tried this on the Elemnt roam and it works without any issues. I'm tempted to switch just for that.

I almost never ride without navigation a course so live segments is practically useless in its current implementation.

  • Starred segments don't work for me using the new course integration feature (I presume you mean when a route is 'starred' in Strava and it then syncs through to the Edge's course list). Is this something that should be working?

  • Thanks for the kind explanation. Could you explain about the new course integration? How can I use that untegration? Do you mean the connect IQ Strava Route App?
