Lap by Position - Mark and Lap

I'm interested in using the Lap by Location feature. By reading the manual, I understand how the "Lap Press Only" and the "Start and Lap" options should work. I don't understand how the "Mark and Lap" option works. What does "trigger lap counter at a specific GPS location marked before the ride..." mean?

If you use this function you don't need to press the lap button to trigger a new lap. The device will trigger a new lap when you reach the specified location.

This is useful if you are doing laps of a fixed loop and you want to trigger a new lap every time you cross the start/finish line without having to remember to press the button every time.

WongataaThanks for your reply. I understand the top level function of Lap by Position. What I'm trying to understand is the "Mark and Lap" option (see 530 manual link below). I don't understand how this option is to work as described in the manual, specifically the MARK portion of the Mark and Lap.

It appears to mark a lap at a certain location picked beforehand and at any time you press the lap button. Whay you want to I don't know.

isn't it that you can mark a set place to register as the start of a lap?
For example you're on a track and start on a grid a long way behind the start/finish line,if you mark the start/finish line the 530 will then auto lap at that point everytime you cross it rather than the point you started moving.

I've not tried this yet, as I've not been racing with the 530 this year, but if that's how it works then I can see if being quite useful.

When I set the Laps by Position option to Mark and Lap, a "Mark Position" menu item appears under the Auto Lap Menu. So the idea is that you would take the 530 to the start/finish line and select "Mark Position" and that point would then trigger a lap during the activity. Makes sense. I'll try it on my next ride.

Once I select a location, I don't see any menu item/option that would list my Marked Locations. Not quite sure how I would keep track of the locations I have selected or how to delete them if I don't want them anymore. I guess this would be an issue with any of the Lap by Position locations regardless of how the positions were saved.

Hi, how do I erase the GPS markers? I have some GPS markers tol many and would like to get rid of them

You can delete saved locations (waypoints) through the 530 interface or use the Garmin Basecamp Application (Windows/Mac) to delete any or all locations stored on the Edge. Basecamp will require that you connect the Edge to your computer via USB. Basecamp is my preferred workflow tool for storing, creating, and deleting waypoint, routes, and tracks since it works with all my Garmin devices (fenix 6, Edge 830, Instinct, GPSMap 64).

thanks a lot. where in the edge interface can I delete laps defined by gps waypoints?

I don't have my Edge in front of me. I'm sure you can find the instructions in the manual.
