Komoot IQ App: Tours in Collections "offline", in Planned Tours "ok".

When I go to the Komoot IQ app and choose My Profile -> Collections -> My Collections -> <collection name> -> Tours & Highlights, my Garmin Edge 830 says "You're currently offline. Only downloaded Tours are available."

But when I go to Planned Tours, the tours which would appear in my collection are available. I don't know if this issue is related to Garmin or Komoot. But it looks like a bug.

Having this exact issue on fenix 6.. Did you solve it?

  • Solved the "hard way" uninstall and re-install ALL! (IQ app, Komoot app, GC)

For my Edge I only disconnected the komoot account in the connect app and then reconnected the account. Then it worked again as expected. Komoot wrote me they knew about the bug and that they had solved it in the meantime.

Thanks. This done the trick.  One other thing. I planned a 125 mile bike ride and when I tried to download on the watch on the komoot app, it said it was too long to download.  Any ideas on ways around this?

  • With komoot is there a find route feature like strava/ridewgps/garmin or can you say I want to start from X point and go 30 miles roundtrip as an example and it will automatically do a route?

This feature is called "Discover" (Link). But I think it works differently than Strava or Garmin. It emphasizes the tour aspect and shows you some nice places along the course instead of simply giving you a route without further explanations.

Personally I use komoot to plan all my workout routes for road cycling because their route planner is by far the best I found. Garmin is far behind on the second place. The Strava route builder is useless. I tried really hard to rebuild some of my komoot routes. In the end I gave up after some hours of fighting with it. I tried RideWithGPS once. But I didn't warm to it.

Komoot's killer "feature" for me is how easy it is to edit the routes and align them with your needs. Garmin or Strava may come up with an automatic route with a specific length (which komoot doesn't). But the automatic routes are never exactly what I want. I always struggled with modifying Garmin or Strava routes.

In komoot I simply choose a starting point, check "road cycling" and "round trip". Then I set some destination which seems interesting on the map. I add another way point to get a different return trip. By moving these two points I can set the overall distance. If I am not satisfied with the route, I can add another way point etc.

Sorry, I only know the Edge devices. I am not familiar with Garmin's watches. But I believe it is a limitation of the Fenix watches in conjunction with komoot. In another post for the Fenix 5+ komoot wrote "The Tour limitation on the Fenix is due to performance issues. If the ride is too long or too complex the navigation does not perform well anymore."

  • Thank you very much for the thoughtful and insightful response. It helps quite a lot and will see what I was missing.
