Edge 530 Heart Rate and Fitness Metrics Not Tracking after 5.50 Update

After doing the update to Version 5.50, I went on a bike ride and discovered that: a) my heart rate average and maximum were recorded, and b) no data for heart rate zones and no data for training metrics (aerobic, anaerobic) which I assume uses heart rate zones.  Also, it starts by itself when in the first screen after turning on, without my touching anything, so I have to continually "Discard Rides". Any help would be appreciated.

  • Settings> Activity Profiles> [Profile Name]> Timer Start Mode = Prompted or Manual

From the sensors menu, delete then pair your HRM again. If the Edge can't find the sensor, replace the battery.

  • Hi, I did as suggested and re-repaired the HRM, it was working fine.  During my next ride I was getting consistent HR information on the head unit, after the ride I obtained average HR and Max HR, but yet again NO TIME was recorded for all five HR zones, thereby nullifying the Fitness Metrics (e.g., Tempo, VO2Max, Base, etc.).  This started the ride after the 5.50 update was applied.  Has anyone else had this problem? Might it be an update issue?

  • Update: After using a different HRM (Wahoo Tickr) I got the same results.  Average and maximum HR, but no data for heart rate zones.  I really do not want to have to do a hard reset of my Edge 530; it such a hassle. Surely there has to be a patch for the 5.50 update since this was when the issue started?

  • Perhaps check your HR zones and maxHR in Garmin Connect, including your sport-specific zones - sometimes incorrect zones can be imported from GC after an update. If necessary, change them to something else and sync, then change them back to their true values and resync.

  • HR Zones look fine in Garmin Connect and also on the device, but I went ahead and made minor changes in GC and then resynced.  Not convinced this is the problem....

  • I'm also using a Wahoo tiker. My HR data is incredibly incorrect when compared to it being paired to my Phoenix. Any progress on fixing this?

  • The Tikr needs to be resynced with updates and then it usually works now, and I did have to redo my HR zones.  But the Tickr is still inaccurate, seems to be affected by bridges and other areas with potential interference, and I have noticed due to my chest, it does not keep track of HR on a consistent basis. I went back to my Garmin strap and everything is fine. Not happy with the Tckr.
