Navigation not advancing

I'm having an issue when navigating a course.  What happens is that the first turn is shown, with the distance to the turn counting down as expected.  I get the notification beep to turn appropriately, but then the navigation never advances to the next direction.  I've inserted two pictures showing me in different locations with the directions to turn in 0 ft.  The only time it advances is if I go off course and get back on, but then it does the same thing for the next turn.  ClimbPro still works, and I can follow the route on the map, but I don't get any more turn alerts.  This happens regardless of where I've created the route (Garmin Connect web or app, Strava, BaseCamp, etc).

What's really weird is that this doesn't always happen.  I've checked all the navigation settings for each activity profile and route and don't see anything obvious.  My working hypothesis is that navigation works properly when I start the route at the very beginning, and fouls up when I select the route after I've already left.  Has anybody else run into this, or have any suggestions on what to do?

  • I have experienced this.  It only happens sometimes with me.  I have noticed that the navigations prompts do return at some point on the course.  If you tap on top bar on the screen to see the turn list you will see the navigation prompt where it will start working correctly.  The distance between where it stops navigation prompts and where it starts again seems to be variable.  I have spotted with my 830 is that when the navigation prompts stop the last navigation prompt says 'Follow Route'.  All you can do at the moment when this happens is to use the map screen and follow the route on the map until the navigations prompts start again.  What firmware are you on?  I am on 5.10.

  • I had this happen to me the othe week during a long ride.     Just said "Follow Route"  but no directions.     I had been looking at the map during a ride and thought this might be related,  but haven't been able to reproduce it.   This was on fw 5.10.   Have since installed the newer firmware - hopefully i don't see it again.

  • Well I am a new owner of Garmin edge 530.

Yesterday had first longer trip and this kind of freezing happened multiple times... :-(

One time 700 meters till left turn froze for some time on perfect GPS accuracy. Then 0 meters left frozen for quite a long time.

GPX was downloaded from komoot and uploaded to garmin connect. Then pushed to garmin edge through phone garmin connect app.

Any thoughts of how to resolve this in future? Stop and resume course navigation?

are you aware of such issue?
