Every so often my Garmin 530 comes up with a power zone of 8. So shows 8.2 or 8.3 even though I'm clearly riding at 2.2 or 2.3. Anyone know why this happens?

I think I may have found the cause. I have defined my 7 power zones in Garmin Connect, and synced these to my device. At least that's what I thought. I discovered that on the Garmin device, you can select 2 types of zoning: Cogan 9 zones and FTP based 7 zones. On my device Cogan was selected, probably not well configured. I have now selected the FTP based zones, which do correspond with what I have in Garmin Connect. I have not seen zone 8 appearing any more (but only did one ride so far with the new settings). Another problem I noticed is also fixed now: in Garmin Connect I finally see correct time spent in Zone 7. (previously it was always 0)
Defining the power zones will not solve a bug.
This issue still persist on the latest software (5.50)
The bug: once the Edge 530 gets sticky on the 8.x power zone, the power zone displayed does not match anymore with the real power.
I have power zone and power next to eachother on the display: the power is still according with my load on the pedals, and the power zone is just stuck on 8.x.
You note "probably not well configured": i have not touched these settings, so the problem is not at my side. zones are configured according % of FTP, and the device frequently asks me to update my FTP according the calculated FTP (based on the ride).
When i say "ok", it is up to the device to configure the power zones correctly according that new FTP.
It is not up to the user to correct it afterwards.
I believe there are two things at play.
First it is about configuration: in Garmin Connect you can only configure 7 power zones, whereas on the Garmin 530 you have the option to use the 7 zone system (these zones will sync with GC) or a 9 zone system (Cogan). I don't think you can set these 9 zones in GC, so you will have to configure these on the device only
And then there is the bugs.
Bug1: I assume that power zone get's stuck on 8.x because that zone is not set on your device (it was not set on mine). So it's debatable if this is really a bug. If you don't define zone 8, how can the device work with zone 8? I don't care too much about this bug, since I only want to use the 7 zones
Bug2: selecting the 7 zone system on the device does not seem to be sticky. Every now and then I notice I get no more Zone7 timings in GC for my activities, and then indeed, somehow the device has selected the 9 zone system again.
