Edge 530 with 5.20, updated maps in Garmin Express and now can't sent a course from Garmin Connect. Does 5.50 fix this?

I posted a few days ago about getting an Edge 530 from Amazon that came with Europe maps instead of USA.  I returned it and got a new Garmin Edge 530 from a local bike shop. It came out of the box with firmware 5.20. I got it set up and sent a course from my iPhone for a test ride. Everything worked perfect.

Then I connected it to Garmin Express (7.0.0.0) and updated all the maps. Now when I try to send a course from my phone it shows that the 530 is an unsupported device.

I chatted with Garmin Support earlier today and they seemed surprised it came with 5.20 straight from the box. They also suggested forcing the maps to update again in GE, which I did (didn't fix it), and waiting for the 5.50 which they said would be expanding from the 20% rollout at the end of next week.

I thought about downloading 5.50 early from the thread here but can anyone confirm that this issue is fixed? I'm also cautious about causing more issues that it may fix.

I've already found a couple other bugs too:

  • light network control of the Varia 515 doesn't seem to work from the device. I can change modes by pushing the button on the Varia but changing it from the Edge does not work.
  • Heart rate from during a ride is not transferred from the Edge to Apple Health. I also think calories and excercise minutes are getting double counted when I wear my apple watch (passively collecting data, not in a workout)

Other than those things I think it's great.

  • On the lights issue, delete the current Varia pairing.

Then pair it specifically as a Light, and NOT as a radar or search all Sensors.

On the Edge, set the lights control to Individual.

  • Thanks, but I tried this and it still does the same thing. First went into sensors, removed the radar. Then put the Varia in pairing mode and went to Add Sensor. I went down to the light option and added it. The light network was formed and set to individual. When I try changing the light setting from the Edge it still doesn't work right.

  • I finally fixed this with my Edge 530. Like others this worked once then stopped working after an update.  I deleted the GC app from my iPhone and also deleted all previous saved BT and BTL connection from the Bluetooth settings. I also removed the previous connections to my 'iPhone X' from the Edge.  After reinstalling, pairing and syncing I can send from my phone to the edge again.

When this originally stopped working I tried all the above and it didn't work. Trying again with the latest GC app does seem to fix it.

  • You know you have to change the light mode in the options for the individual light and not in the options for the light network, right? So you have to go one level deeper. Setting the light network to individual enables you access the light mode of each light in said network. In the beginning I missed that too.

  • Yes, I believe I'm doing it correctly. From the main screen I click up to show sensor, light, phone and weather status page. I go into 'Light Network: Individual', click down to my light called 'Radar', then change light mode to 'Day Flash'. The light then turns off and I'm returned  to the previous menu and the Light Mode now says 'Off'.  If I manually change the light mode by clicking the button on top of the radar the Light Mode on the edge updates correctly.
