Time in Zones suddenly not reporting in garmin connect or on edge 530

Hi.  Even though my average heart rate and maximum heart rate are being recorded on my device and in garmin connect, my time in zones just reads zero for zone 1-5.  On the edge, the time in zones doesn't appear as it should, whem I view an activity summary.

I wear the garmin heart rate monitor.  This behavior has occurred on my last 2 bike rides, and not on the previous 20 or so.  I didn't change any settings, so I'm kind of stumped as to my this would happen.  When I check in GC, my heart rate zones are present and have values.  Any help would be appreciated.

Tom

  • On my edge 530, when I go into training zones>heart rate zones>, the 5 zones all have the same value, 179bpm-179bpm.  The problem lies in here I think.  Not sure why this happened.  I have auto detect set.  Shall I just use the reset zones feature on the edge?

  • I would just reset the zones.  If they are still not right I would manually edit them.

  • Thanks, I did as you suggested and will check it out tomorrow when I ride.

  • I would also checking to see what they are in Garmin Connect under the device settings for the unit you are using.

  • Thanks.  I did check that and the values are the same as they've been the past few weeks.  Maybe it just glitched?  I did a workout today on the treadmill with my forerunner 235.  The time in zones showed properly, so I believe the issue is with the edge 530 itself, and not in Garmin connect.  I reset the zones on the edge 530 and will test it out on a ride tomorrow.

  • Quick update.  I used the reset heart rate zones values option on the 530 and synched it with Garmin Express/Garmin Connect.  Even though the values in Garmin Connect are correct, the 530 did not change the heart rate zone values, they all remained the same, with zones 1-5 reading 100%-100%.  So I manually reset the zones on the 530. I went on my ride and the 530 reported most of my effort to be in zone 5, which was probably an error in the way I manually inputted the values on the 530.  After the synch the heart rate zone values on the 530 reverted back to the incorrect numbers.

So I called tech support.  After trouble shooting and checking settings for a while he changed one heart rate number in Garmin Connect in the user setting, then changed it back, allowing him to now save the heart rate zone values.  He then had me resynch the 530, which then displayed the correct heart rate zone values.  I'll go for a ride today or tomorrow to see if they stick.. As an aside my Forerunner 235 and Edge 520 do not exhibit these same errors.  I rode with the 520 yesterday and all was good.  This leads me to believe the problem is with the 530 itself and not in Garmin Connect.

  • Just to complete this thread, I went for 2 rides and the 530 now reports the time in heart rate zones correctly and has not reverted back.  So all is good

  • I had this exact thing on my edge 830 today. Couldn’t work out why I was always in zone 0.5 whereas it’s been displaying fine for months.

All zones are now seemingly set to 100%-100%.
only thing I can think of is I entered a resting heart rate recently. Maybe this screwed it up.
no idea what the original percentages should be, but I certainly didn’t change them!

Where are the HR zones in connect ?

(edited: found it - connected the edge and then reset the edge settings via connect, after noting my current max HR. Once reset I put the new numbers  back in and looks like all my zones are back except the ride I did today has no heart rate zone data. I guess I’ll see if there’s any way to edit that)

  • As per the rep I spoke with there is no way to edit that data.  No biggie, it's just one ride.  I've been on many rides since my problem originally occurred and it hasn't happened again.
