Problems creating Garmin segments: how to improve resolution of map when creating a segment?

I'm trying to create a Garmin segment from an existing activity (road bike ride).

Before trying to create a Garmin segment, if I view the map/course of the activity, the route is smoothly curved, and follows the road very well.

But when I create a Garmin segment, the route is not smoothly curved at all. It skips across corners in the road, and just doesn't follow the road well. It looks like the 2 maps are different in resolution (the recorded route is high resolution, and the segment creation map resolution is very poor). Likely because of this poor resolution, when picking the segment start and end points, I am very limited to where I can click.

Is there any way to improve the resolution of the route when creating a Garmin segment? Why would Garmin reduce the resolution when creating segments?

thanks!

  • That's exactly what happened to me. At first I thought (and reported it as an error) that it was the hydration message that erased my segment measurement. Yesterday I was driving the same route without any irrigation message and again the segment measurement disappeared after a few seconds from the start. It's exactly as you wrote - the map for creating a garmin segment is a joke - instead of going through the turn, it cut it down completely (hence the exit from the segment measurement - I didn't get to the point where the garmin segment is probably coming back on track)
