(Note: Please include a copy of your debugging folder in your response email if you experience any issues)

Changes made from version 5.44 to 5.48:

  • Fixed an issue with sensor connectivity.
  • Added diagnostics to help track down an issue where the device can lock up.
  • I'm not defending Garmin but buggy software sends to be part of the brand, an inevitable consequence of having so many different devices. Apple spend much more and yet have just one watch per year. They have already overtaken Garmin in the sports watch market. All that saves Garmin is that there is no Apple in bike computers and they competitors are equally rubbish or worse.

  • Yeah, on the one hand comparing Garmin to Apple is a bit ridiculous. On the other hand, Garmin is a sizeable company too. Now, about one year on the market, the 530/830 devices are still buggy to an unusable degree for many. Where is the tipping point of what is still "acceptable" (current) and at what point is it unacceptable.

Personally, when my Garmin devices crap out, I'm not replacing them with Garmin. Already the warrantee replacements I've had to pursue on my wife's and my personal forerunner units is enough to make me fume.

  • I've got an Edge 530 with both speed and cadence sensors and it works perfectly on beta 5.48.

  • What is frustrating is that Garmin have a flight instruments division, and their products from that division are torn apart by all the aviation authorities to make sure that they function correctly.  Garmin knows how to code when they want to, they just seem to feel that software configuration and management isn't important in the sports division.  How many errors do we get "reintroduced" in later releases, lots... That proves poor config management and at best a lacklusture approach to the customers.

  • I must be unique then in that I have zero issues with my Edge 530 or Venu.

  • You use speed/cadence sensors only. Maybe that is the point you do not have any issues.

I use hr, speed, cadence, power, lights (rear and front), di2 sensors and have lots dropouts.

  • I have HR, Cadence, Speed Sensors. Most stable Beta for me was 5.26.
By most stable that meant no mid-ride reboots or random reconnects to sensors. High standards to uphold!

But, any firmware so far, give me 30min of menu fumbling and I'll get the unit to crash/restart.
I'm still a "light" user when it comes to taking advantage of all the "features",  but so far these features either work in a way I find is completely unsuitable and distracting, or they tend to be risky and crash the device.

    i'm on 5.48

yesterday the heartmonitor connection dropped. i went to the sensor settings and saw the monitor blinking. in the hm setting screen i could disable the sensor on re-enabling it the system froze completely, it would not accept any inputs. after a few seconds the system crashed and restarted. the hm was working again.

anyway do you need debug stuff that would help?

  • There is final v5.50 already. Unfortunately it is 10% rollout so far. I really hope Thinking that help for all annoying issues .
