Verve Infocrank Crank Length Issues

I have a new Garmin 530 and connected with my Verve Infocrank powermeter via ANT+. When I go to Settings > Sensors > 2914 (SensorID) > Sensor Details it says 'Crank Length: Automatic 180.0mm'. The real crank length should be 172.5mm, and there is no way to adjust it with the Garmin device. However, I read somewhere that crank length only matters for pedal based power meters, so could I just ignore this wrong value and assume it is not 'used' in the data processing?

Interestingly, when I connect the powermeter with my old computer (Lezyne Micro GPS), I am able to set the crank length manually to the correct value. Moreover, if the garmin is connected at the same time, the crank length is also changed to 172.5mm.

There obviously is a bug somewhere in the Garmin software or the powermeter firmware or both, but my question is whether this affects the power readings or not?

  • Crank based systems typically don't need to know the crank length unless they are installed on the crank by the customer.

Factory built crank based power meters are calibrated at the factory with the correct crank length and as that typically cannot be changed there is no need to input the value.

It sounds like a bug in the crank software as it should not be passing any type of crank length information.

Contact me via a private message if you would like to investigate this further.

  • Hi,

I have a same problem with my Garmin 520 and 820. 820 has option to set manualy crank lenght. Before every ride I put corret value (172.5) but on next ride 180mm set back automaticlly. And also I use VINC Infocrank app on my mobile to check and VINC also show 180mm. Before I had Garmin 500 and Garmin 510 and never any issue like this.

  • the (wrong) crank length setting in your Edges dont affect for the Infocrank power measurements,it is just a bug in Infocrank's firmware (the crank length setting should be hidden in head units ...) probably there is newer firmware already (as i found the 0.206 is the latest maybe) , ask Infocrank about it and i think this setting will be disappeared from your head units (if there is new fw with bugfix for this issue).
