FTP Auto Calculation Wrong

I recently picked up the Garmin Edge 530 and have used 4 or 5 previous versions of the Edge in the past. I'd like to think I'm pretty familiar with them, but for some reason I can't figure this out. I have rode three rides with the new unit so far, and after each ride, the FTP Auto Calculation is very inaccurate. It's telling me I'm putting out around 462W for an FTP on my rides. I read a bunch of similar posts of this nature, all of which were much older and Garmin Support said a software update fixed that issue. I'm currently running Version 5.10.0.0. In the meantime, I have disabled the FTP Auto Calculation, but would like to have it resolved so I could use the feature. Thank you for your help!

  • My Garmin is listing an FTP although I have never done a ramp test with it. It is measuring 70 watts higher than my FTP measurement after doing the FTP test on Zwift or the 4DP test on Sufferfest which correlated well with each other. Any idea why?

  • Because the auto detect FTP function didn't work well for you.  Just put in the number you have got from your tests that you are happy with.

  • Whilst its obviously annoying that the unit isn't working as you expected, if you are using power zones you should do a ramp or 20 min FTP test. It's unpleasant but the zones are based on an accurate FTP having done a proper test. British Cycling has good advice on their website.
