Disabling erg mode when running indoor workouts from edge 530

Hi,

I currently use zwift and TR, and have a kickr trainer. I run TR workouts from my edge 530 while I am on zwift. However when I do this the 530 ends up controlling the smart trainer in erg mode as default. I’m wondering if there is any way to do these workouts without the edge controlling the kickr in erg mode. I still want the trainer to be connected to the edge 530 to get my power data, but not control the trainer in erg mode (I use the edge 530 as my data source in garmin connect, not zwift, because it gives me training effect...etc).

Just to be clear, my question is:

Can I run an indoor workout from the edge 530 while paired to a smart trainer that has power targets without it defaulting to erg mode?

Thank you for the help!

Matt

  • If you don't care about intervals being marked as laps, i.e. you just want to use the Edge as a recording device, yes you can. Simply hit start on the Edge and if the Edge asks you whether you want to follow a structured workout (e.g. when the workout has been send from TrainingPeaks to Garmin) select skip it. There is one caveat though: You probably would have to connect your trainer to the Edge via ANT+ since the trainer's Bluetooth connection might be taken by whatever device you are using to run Zwift (and hence control the trainer difficulty from there).

I quite often do this and occasionally mark the laps manually (Di2 helps a lot with this regard) to get the average power for an interval which still isn't shown in Zwift AFAIK.
