Compare Flow Across Activities

Since I ride the same trails over and over is there some way to compare your flow across different activities? It would be great to see if you were improving over time by lining up multiple trips across the same sections.

  • Same question.  Seems that either Garmin or Strava could attach the Grit/Flow/Jump data to routes and segments to allow for easy comparisons between rides.

  • In Garmin connect when you open ride and check flow there is ? which says

"Flow is a useful metric for analyzing your ride performance on a trail. For example, you can compare flow scores between two rides on the same trail to look for areas of improvement or decline in how smoothly you were riding."

So I marked two similar activities (same segment I rode and I would like to compare it). I can see all kind of values compared between those two rides but MTB metrics are not there. Maybe it needs to be exact same ride? I would like to compare that given segment (Strava segment it is) only.

I don't understand.  You can select multiple rides and show a comparison screen?

**Just figured it out.  Selecting from the All Activities view.  Cool feature that I didn't know existed.  Agreed that it would be great to compare two MTB runs w/ the MTB metrics & map included.

  • Yeah, it is not very intuitive IMO, left click in them will mark them then Compare button will appear. And there are no MTB metrics shown, even when you compare same exact rides. Not sure why.

But work around is, before I ride on segment I want to see FLOW, I press lap button, it will reset lab flow and starts recording from 0. Then when I rode the segment I want I press lab button again. This is saved in ride stats as lab and then manually compare flows in garmin connect from different rides. I as well have lab flow on my datapages so I can see instantly what flow I had on that given segment.

  • Thanks for the lap technique suggestion.  I'll play around with that.

The 530 can also be programmed to auto lap at a specific location (link below)  This will be perfect using your lap technique to compare the same locations on the trail.

  • Nice, thanks I was thinning how to do it automatically when segment starts, because I usually forget to press lap button. Thanks for that idea Slight smile

  • Just wondering a year later if this has changed at all.  You would think the logical thing would be to add flow and grit to segment data in connect.

  • I haven't noticed any changes.
