Next public software release

Any ideas when the next public software release will be available?

It’s been 4 months since 5.10 was released which I’m still running.
There are a few things in the beta release that interest me (time update on indoor rides for example) but keen to hang out for a full release rather than jump on beta versions.
The last beta has been out for a while now.

Surely something should be available, soon?

  • Garmin is definitely in corona RIGID.

I've asked this question 2 months before.

I wonder, if Garmin is developing some kind of new software system to leave the old issues behind.

But anyway, in these times of thousands of mobile device manufacturers it is hard to run a stable system. Even with that infinite functions a Garmin Device offers!

  • my take on this is they're baking in the new gps chipset firmware that was already pushed to the fenix6 and 945/245 line - as the 945 fw just got official this wednesday, i'd say just a bit more...;-)

  • Interesting, just bought my 530 and it's 5.20...

  • That seems a little odd to be putting beta software into production units.

Perhaps it *was* classed as production ready at some point then maybe pulled or not made available via the update process.

  • Does it fix the GPS on those units? My GPS on my 530 has always been rubbish, at least half of the live segments I have always used with my 520 are unusable and drop out with my 530
If new firmware fixed that I would be very happy, but I am convinced that it's inferior hardware and not fixable so I will suffer it out until a better product comes along.

  • to be really honest, i have mixed feelings - when running with 4:30-5min/km pace i get below average tracks / results, even with the new gps fw installed on the 945; when i'm doing the same activity with a similar speed without arm swing on the electric scooter, i get close to perfect tracks; but i have my 530 since last year and couldn't complain, it delivered very good tracking even with the early gps fw releases. so i think that unfortunately the answer is "it depends"...

  • ...but anyway, there is, after months(!) of beta versions, some nice official Firmware outstanding!

  • I wonder if the whole COVID19 lockdown has stopped development of firmware and products?

  • Yeah some others have said the hardware was changed sometime during production and an improved GPS chip used.
Looks like that could be the case and that Garmin just doesn't care about those who got the inferior chip and they don't want to admit it.
I have plenty of time ATM, I might start rining help desk every day until they give me a new one :)
