Just acquired an Edge 530, never had anything else for a bike. (Early TomTom, then built-in, on a car.)
Love the build quality and the Garmin mount. No problems with clickability.
At the moment whilst recognising the machine's versatility I basically do 4 things:
1 Merely keep track of where I am i.e. just ride with the map.
2 Record a ride
3 Save a location
4 Set a destination e.g. (but not necessarily) a saved location
Generally, navigating the device is a bit of a task - no touch-screen or mouse direction!
Specifically, setting a location through "Browse map" is really awkward, but I think I am getting better at it.
As an aid to navigating the device, I have allocated the seven buttons to their relative position on a 12-hour clock face, so e.g. the on-off button is "10".
Starting there and working anti-clockwise, the seven keys 'look like' 10 9 8 7 5 4 2.
Then the 4 activities listed above are
1 : 10 2 then toggle 8/9
2 : 10 5 then toggle 8/9
3 : 10 8 then Nav then Browse
4 : 10 8 then Nav then Saved then Go (and 5)
Well, as I write this I can hear fellow users suggesting For Goodness Sake Just Learn The Keys but the clock face metaphor has helped me a lot as I try to get familiar with the device.
Has anybody got any good hints for the rapid traverse of what is undeniably a steep learning curve?
Thank you!
