Didn't connect to power meter after long start delay

I did a triathlon on Sunday and was disappointed that my Edge 530 didn't properly connect to my ANT+ power meter during the activity. I pressed the Start button on the Edge before the race while my bike was on the transition rack, and then it automatically paused the activity because it wasn't moving. About an hour later when I came out of T1 and started riding it resumed the activity and correctly displayed speed and distance but the power field was blank. I know the power meter (Favero Assioma) was working correctly because I was also wearing a Forerunner 935, and that wrist device correctly displayed and recorded accurate power data.

Is this a bug in the Edge 530 firmware or did I do something wrong? Maybe I should try using the new Extended Display feature instead on the next triathlon.

  • I think these units search for sensors for a few minutes after switch on.  Then they stop searching to save power.  So if you switched on before the race the power meter would have been asleep and not paired.  When you started riding the unit was already on so didn't re search for sensors.  You can manually pair a sensor at any time if you go to the sensors page and tap on the sensor you want to pair up.  Then it will look for that sensor again.

  • Thanks that makes sense. So next time I should wake up the power meter and make sure it connects to the bike computer before I leave my bike on the rack.
