530 edge pairing

Here’s the short story: pairing 530 edge to iPhone does not work, or happens completely randomly. I have tired every permutation of every suggestion given by Garmin and forums.  Nothing works. Pairing crashes as soon as I press ok to pair the phone.  Then hours later, not even near the 530, I’ll get a message that the phone is paired.  Then when I actually go to use the 530, it is not paired.  It is clearly a bug in the 530 because this is phone pairs with every other device I use...speakers, headphones, two cars...and does so automatically after only one pairing many months ago.. garmin just needs to fix the fatal flaw in their devices. Pairing just does not work. Period.

  • I've been having the same issues for the last hour.  Here is what finally worked for me.  I had been making sure that Bluetooth saw my edge530 in settings before I began the pairing process.   I finally forgot the device completely in Bluetooth and immediately tried to pair using the Garmin connect app.  Don't know the why, but that worked for me.  It was a hour of frustration before that.  Cheers and ride safe

So to be clear, I did not use iphone settings>Bluetooth to see the 530 device first.

  • That will work once. Then after you turn off the garmin you will need to do all that again to pair again. Every. Single. Time. It just will not pair automatically like my two cars, my headphones, my speakers. I don't do anything to pair those after the initial pairing. Not really something I want to do every time I use it. I'ver given up on pairing as a useful feature. Just doesn't work well.

  • I'm having the same problem.  I got my Edge 530 in the fall and pairing and syncing with my iPhone 8 worked fine and automatically back then.  But, in the last month or two, it's become essentially impossible to get it to reliably pair and sync.  My Fenix 6s Pro pairs and syncs perfectly with the iPhone.  But, in the Garmin Connect mobile app, usually the Edge 530 shows up under "Devices" as "Not Connected" and with a grey circle with a white question mark where the "Sync Now" button usually is.

Just now I had the Edge 530 paired and was able to hit the Sync Now button for the Edge 530.  Then, I hit the "Sync Now" button for my Fenix 6s Pro.  The sync wheel started spinning.  It seemed to be taking forever, so I switched to the "My Day" screen which allows one to check on the sync progress.  The Fenix was syncing, but just doing it very slowly.  Once it was done, I went back to the "Devices" screen and lo and behold, the Edge 530 was now "Not Connected" and there was the grey circle with the white question mark in the center instead of the "Sync Now" button.

The behavior is very random.  I've seen crashes while trying to pair it, I've seen it show up as TWO entries on the iPhone's Settings Bluetooth menu, etc.  Very frustrating.

  • I could not get firmware 5.10 to pair the Edge 530 to one of my phones. It worked fine on another phone.

After updating to Beta Frimware v5.31 the Edge 530 paired worked instantly.

I've found most pairing and sync issues go away if you just stick to the Edge working on Bluetooth or Wifi but not both. If you have both set up it gets muddled. Since I discovered that I use only Bluetooth to sync from courses made on a laptop (using Komoot, Strava Routes, Ride GPS or the Garmin iConnect desktop) and then from my smartphone which has those four apps and sync on bluetooth.

Agree 5489889 btw, the instructions for pairing are essentially incorrect and I had to do what they did.

Best of luck and safe riding
