530 Sensor Dropouts

Has this problem been solved? I see some older discussions on it. I am getting continuous dropouts on my Garmin 530 via Ant+ with my Tacx Neo . Garmin 520 and  520+ work just fine with it My Wahoo Elemnt is fine, even my Hammerhead Karoo works nicely. H/R is fine on the Garmin 530. It is just Cadence, Power and Speed.

  • I'm having the exact same issues with my Edge 530. Garmin has replaced the speed sensor and my heart rate monitor. I recently bought vector 3 pedals ($1k CDN). Everything connecting and disconnecting constantly. The data is unusable.

I talked to a Garmin rep today he said the problem lies with the Ant+ chip manufacturer. Sounds like a hardware issue - I would not expect it to ever get resolved without a recall.

Garmin offered to replace my Edge 530 (with same faulty Ant+ chip), but with all these issues and knowing what I do about hardware I think I am just going to ask for my money back for everything.

Whoever heard of a tracking company that specializes in recording stats that can't record stats properly! Unsure how something like this could ever pass testing.

  • Disappointed to read this.

    I just bought a 2nd hand 530. Did I make a mistake?

  • Probably not.  Although there are real problems that are reported here, forums like this tend to only have posts about the negative stuff.  Although a few small quirks, my 530 (and 130 before it) has done fine.  I'm using Speed Sensors on three different bikes, the Remote and an HRM-Dual and almost never have a sensor dropout.  There is a theory that WiFi interferes with Ant+, but I keep WiFi turned off on my phone while riding, perhaps that helps.

Use the 530, get to know it, and frequent this forum to understand and get past any quirks.

  • Thank you for the +ve response. I look forward to using the beast next month' (it's actually a birthday gift from my kids).

  • Try to turn off bluetooth. Solved my problems.
