Route calculation error on Garmin/Strava courses

Hi there

Regardless whether I load a Strava or Garmin Connect course, I get “Route calculation error.” This is the case for when I’m currently really far from the starting point. If the starting point is really close, the course completes loading. However, the Turn Directions are completely messed. It appears to be trying to create a routing point every 50/100m and there are no street names or turn instructions (see image attached). Eventually, it times out and gives me an error like “only 50 or less points are allowed”.

The strange thing is, if I elect for the option Navigate to Start, the Edge does fine. It gives me clear turn-by-turn instructions up to the starting point.

  • You and me must be the only people in the Garmin universe with this bug. I posted on it months ago and had no responses. What's your map setup?  I have Garmin Australia regional maps and the bug only occurred if I was using an OSM from Garmin.openstreetmap.nl (bicycle routable) and not the Garmin Australia regional map. To avoid the bug with OSM maps when overseas or in Australia I just had to disable the pre-installed Garmin world basemap. I did not have to disable other pre-installed Garmin region maps but I did anyway as I find they have to much detail. See if disabling that waste of space basemap solves it .

  • It worked!!!! This is fantastic news and has made my weekend. Thank you so much!!!

My set up is exactly as you described. Garmin Australia maps with Singapore OSM map from that link.

I hope others trawling the Internet will find this useful.
