The circumference is only relevant if you have an external speed sensor, in which case the setting is under the sensor details and will show when the Edge is in communication with the sensor.
Except not all tyres mounted to the same wheel are always the same size... theoretically, yes, practically, no. At least this is what I experienced with MTB tyres.
I have two 2.35" Maxxis tires and their…
Nope. Need to use multiple sensors

I just got an Edge 530 and it came with a speed sensor. I have not used one of these sensors before and I wasn't prompted to enter a circumference or anything once it paired. Manuals do not mention anything about this either. Is it a useless sensor without entering this?
The default setting is Auto Calibrate, which will accurately calibrate the sensor if you calibrate it on a long stretch of flat and straight road.
Find a nice straight flat stretch of road, and ride it for about 1km, and you should get a prompt that calibration is done.
Thank you. I found that in the settings. I didn't note anything saying calibration is done, but I also did not ride any straight flat stretches either.
If you go into sensor then sensor details in the menu when the sensor is connected you can set wheel size calibration to automatic or manual. I prefer manual as I know my wheel size, set it in millimeters for example 700x25c = 2105 you can find the table of values to use for different size wheels at this link https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/edge530/EN-US/GUID-DB0BC20A-DADF-41EB-A61C-14BEC158B43C.html

I have two 2.35" Maxxis tires and their rolling distance over two full rotations are different. What also contributes to this presumption of standards, is that each tyre maintains theoretical circumference while riding under load.
Some tyres also conform easier to load than others, based on the rubber thickness and ply of the sidewalls.
I found that my manual roll out measurements of a hard MTB tyre and the GPS calculation were so close it was splitting hairs. So I just decide to use GPS as I cannot accurately measure my wheel circumference with load at the tyre pressures I want to ride.
Again, this is for my MTB. Road Cycling may be a different story entirely.
I use my Edge 530 and my forerunner 920xt.
I have Continental GP4000 700x25c
My Edge 530 is set to auto calibration (value 2134mm).
My 920xt is manually set to 2105mm
Interestly, I always get higher distance with my 920xt, even if the circumference is set to a lower value...
Anyone could explained that? :)
As we can manage profil with the Edge 530, is it possible to set a different size for each? I use the same sensor on different bikes (MTB, road, commute and gravel).
