Route color is really hard to see in real life.

It's seriously hard to differentiate the route versus the normal road while cycling  - check out my screen shot -

Imagine trying to discern that magenta route amongst the similar color road while the bike is on the move - it's 1000x clearer here in this screenshot than when out on the bike in bright/dark lighting and you're trying to avoid getting killed by inattentive drivers. Can't garmin choose a more distinctive color (hint hint : bright green)......is tat too much to ask for a $450 technology product?

Well, I've never thought about it before, but you may be right..

  • Route color should be configurable, much like track colors. But it's been like that for ever on Garmin and for some reason they seem to be deaf to such requests

  • Yes - it's been on every Garmin since the beginning of time - it's nearly not as bad in the automotive garmins as there's the background LED light shinning through - and the screen is of course much larger on them. But the 530 with it's smaller transflective 2.6inch screen is on a wobbly bike amongst traffic, pedestrians (dogs) and other cyclists....it's not something you can glance and say oh yeah turning left now guys. It's more like - hang on....i need to stop and have a better look at the route......

  • Perhaps a lot of energy and focus is on ensuring the unit is compatible with many rapidly emerging requirements - power, mobiles, light systems etc. People have 101 different connectivity requirements and they want their Garmin to comply. For example the ones that need to see the SMS or whatsapp messages on their Edge......really?

They continue to load features and functionalites - it looks better on the tin.

Thereby overlooking or ignoring some of the really more useful requests.

  • Yes I agree too , I find it hard to follow a route , because everything looks all the same and same colours , I think I prefer the following a route without the map like the old edge 520 , much easier , but yes the option to change the route colour would be nice

  • I also find this a problem. Even track colours can be an issue depending of the map background and details. E.g. light green is good during day but in night colours it's similar to the grey of a lot of roads.

Being able to also select a pattern for the route/track would help a lot. Chevrons also indicating direction perhaps.

  • "Chevrons also indicating direction perhaps."

    That's what Garmin should do.
