Sensor dropping

A constant headache. I have an Edge 1000 and no problem with the sensors. With the 530, its constant on and off...get notices while riding...found your cadence, found your speed, found your heart...very sporadic but throughout the ride. The sensors are brand new, and have reset the 530 and tried removing the sensor batteries to no success. Any suggestions or does the unit go back to Garmin?

  • Do you have an Edge Remote paired?

  • I don't. The only accessories I've got paired to my Garmin 520 are Vector 3S, cadence and speed sensors.

  • I also sent in comparison charts of my rides from last year using a previous version of the software, to what my rides look like now. Their product specialist told me the cause of this might be a bad battery compartment door and battery board. I sent a picture of my battery compartment to him from my Vector 3S pedals and I was told that the threads were damaged, which I find hard to believe since I've accessed the battery area about 3 times in the nearly 2 years I've had them. I can only assume that this means a poor batter connection? Apparently they've also had some problems with the battery board/connections, which he said that they'll replace as well. I'm not sure how this explains the simultaneous dropouts of the Power and Cadence sensors. Haven't heard back yet.

  • Hey sausage,

no remotes on the trainer, just the Tacx paired to the 530 (as individual sensors, not as a trainer) and my Garmin HRM.

The Neo 2 is also paired to my laptop using the Tacx ANT+ antenna with Zwift / Tacx / Rouvy etc running.

On my road bike, can’t say I’ve seen any drops, but not paying as much attention either.

on that bike I have Stages dual L/R pm, Di2, Garmin front light, HRM, Speed/Cadence sensor all paired. (I also have my Virb paired but have not actually used it on the 530 yet)

  • Hi Tim. I was jus checking as I have regular Power/Cadence Dropouts on my Neo2T/Edge 1030, which has an open support case with Garmin. This is an issue with mine as I have the trainer paired to my edge for erg workouts. The issue seems to be exacerbated by having an Edge Remote paired, which is discussed here

  • Where do you have the Edge 1030 mounted?

I have mine on a K-Edge out front mount, I sometimes wonder if there are issues due to my bike / bars / body blocking the signal from the trainer as I don’t seem to lose HR data at the same time.

Have you tried putting the Edge on the floor near the trainer by chance?

  • It's mounted on the stem though I have tried various troubleshooting positions & set-ups like turning off phone connection & Wi-Fi even turning off the home Wi-Fi.

What I found was that if I either don't pair the NEO as a trainer (ie sensors only no erg control) &/or remove the pairing to the edge remote I don't get the dropouts even with the edge mounted in the same place.

I've even had my Fenix 6 paired to the NEO speed/cadence/power sensors only & the Edge paired to the sensors & the trainer. I even had a 2nd Edge 1030 paired to the sensors only with no dropouts on the Fenix 6 or the 2nd Edge 1030 & lots on the Edge 1030 paired to the trainer, which seemed to occur regularly at around 4m:15s intervals

  • Just a follow up.
I have upgraded my Edge 530 to newest firmware 5.50 and used it for at least 20 hours of ridning after upgrade. MTB with heartbelt and roadbike with heartbelt and powermeter.
The new firmware has solved all problems with sensor drop Thumbsup tone2

I have not seen any single drop with new firmware - even when activating livetrack it works Blush

Finally my Edge 530 works perfekt

Hope the new firmware also solves the issues reporter by other in this thread

    Best regards,

    Henrik

  • Hate to be a buzz kill but I am having the exact opposite experience.

SINCE upgrading to firmware 5.50 on the Edge 530 I am experiencing all kinds of sensor drops during rides, as well as sensors not being found at the start of the ride.

Today, I rode 32 miles (2 hours) and experienced TWO separate cases where both the GARMIN Rear RADAR/Light AND the STAGES power meter dropped at the exact time, only to return on their own within five seconds.

At this beginning of this ride I looked down to notice the power meter was not found (battery is 100%).  I had to go to the ADD sensor while riding to re-pair the power meter with the Edge 530.

Prior firmware versions did NOT have this problem for me.

  • This was fixed in SW updates for Edge 530/830: 6.00 | Edge 1030: 10.00
