My first attempt at Live Track was a complete fail

Everything was going great, start my ride, Live Track starts, fires off an email and I go riding in the dark hills in the comfort that my loved ones know where I am.

I’ve had the 530 for a quite a few months now, I have never once had issues with the 530 and my S9 disconnecting, however today, half way into a 2 hour ride it disconnected and never connected again, something I was blissfully unaware of until I got home. Honestly, what’s the point of a Safety Feature if its unreliable?!? I did not pause the activity, leave my bike or anything else, I was riding the whole time.

As mentioned, I’ve never had a disconnect since having my 530 (well if I have it reconnected and I didn’t notice). I’ve done two things since my last outdoor ride and a trainer session in between where there were no connection issues, they are -

  • used Live Track for the first time
  • uninstalled and reinstalled the GCM app and re-paired the phone trying to fix something else.

I know I’m having a bit of a whinge, but come on Garmin this has been an issue since the beginning of time!

  • I realised that I didn't even get out of my street before it failed.

In a 43km ride, it only tracked me from km10 to km18 or about 20 minutes out of nearly 2 hours.

  • Tried another Live Track again today, once again, didn’t even get out of my street, it lasted 7 seconds. Phone still connected to Edge this time. Rode on for a bit, stopped it, started one manually, seemed to start tracking ok, great I thought. This time lasted 15 minutes before it lost interest.

What a great idea and an absolutely useless waste of time in the way it’s implemented.

  • Live Track works very very bad.... It's always failing
