Edge 530+Indoor Trainer Issues

When training indoor using power based workout I have the following sensor data available at the same time:

  • Power, cadence data from my Stages power meter.
  • Power, speed/cadence data from my Tacx Neo.
  • Heart rate data from my Wahoo Tickr

Is there any way to pick and choose which data stream are being recorded, Ideally I would like to capture the following data:

  • Cadence from Stages power meter.
  • Power, speed from Tacx Neo.
  • Heart rate data from my Wahoo Tickr

Another issue I currently have is that the power readings from Tacx Neo overshoots sometimes to 50,000. I never experience this on Zwift or Tacx Training App!

  • on my Edge 830 i connect Vector 3 as ANT+ for Power, Speed/Cadence Sensor ANT+ of Neo 2 and HRM Run, thats all, on the other side i record my rides with Zwift too, Neo2 isn't connected as Indoor Trainer on 830.

Zwift controls the Neo2 over ANT+, Vector3 with ANT+ gives the power measurement, HRM Run ANT+, i use the Tacx ANT+ Antenna with longer cable, without i had big problems and Bluetooth never worked for me, to much timeouts

    Bluetooth or ANT+?

  • The main idea behind this setup is that I'm trying to detach Zwift and relay completely on 530 for structured workouts.

  • ANT+ paired directly to 530

  • Connect Zwift to the Neo as a power meter rather than as a controllable trainer. Then the 530 should be able to control the resistance over F-EC.

Did you determine a good solution for this? I have similar setup (Stages dual power, Wahoo Tickr, but Wahoo Kickr instead of Tacx Neo). I've noticed that not only are speeds slightly off, but distance is drastically off; 12.21 miles at 19.3 mph average in Zwift and 10.67 miles  at 16.6 mph on my Garmin 530.  I connect my device to my laptop via a ANT+ doggle and to my Garmin via Bluetooth. Unfortunately I have to record through Zwift and Garmin to get all the data I want. Zwift doesn't show my L/R power balance or training effect and the Garmin doesn't show the elevation or route from Zwift. I've attempted riding in Zwift, saving the ride as a course and then riding the course on my Garmin as I ride it again in Zwift. Again, they end up not matching up on distance or location on route (as a result of difference in calculation in distance I'm sure).

    Any ideas?

  • What people need to be able to do on the Garmin Edge devices is to set the device priority for each metric.

The problem with  this became a lot more annoying when dealing with an ANT+ trainer.

As it is, the only option you have is to disable the devices you don't want to use.

But for your issue, the problem is that the Tacx Neo Speed is connected to Tacx Neo Cadence, so there is no way to separate those.

  • I am curious when you use to train indoors do you get training feedback (load / effect) as my device I get nothing even though I have similar setup to yours listed.

I get training load and effect via the Garmin 530 recorded session and a TSS from Zwift. I've since learned that the two will probably never match up since Garmin is using the rotation of my crank and "wheel size" to determine distance while Zwift uses an algorithm based off of W/Kg power output to determine speed and distance. Essentially I use data from both (which skews my Gamin Connect data since I get "double credit" for riding) to get all the different data I want to see. The 3 second power from my Garmin through the Stages cranks and the 3 sec power being shown in Zwift from my Wahoo KICK is relatively spot on though.

  • Did anyone ever find a solution for this? I have a trainer that has 2.5% power meter and a Quarq power meter on the crank with 1%. After a few rides indoor Garmin is telling me VO2 Max dropped, when it has increased for running. Its probably just the accuracy of the trainer, so want to use Quarq as power indoors.
