Climb Pro feature requests

I have been using Climb Pro for a while now (in the Pyrenees and Cévennes in France) and generally like it a lot. I would really like to see some of the following issues addressed though.

When looking at the climbpro screen on an active climb section:

  • Climb 5/11
This is only relevant when you approach the section and see the summary data of the climb. During the climb itselt, nobody actually cares anymore if it was the fifth, sixth or ultimate climb I guess. It just takes up space on the screen.
  • Two Top data fields (Dist. to go + Asc Remain)
Nice to have on the overview screen, but during the climb itself, it would love to have two custom data fields. Please make those top two fields customisable. In my case I would prefer to have my Speed and Cadance next to my Power data.
  • Grade Remain.
Again, nice to have it on the summary approaching the climb, but during the climb itself it is not relevant anymore when you also have the colored sections on the chart. I would suggest to move Dist Remaining to where Grade Remain is now and keep it visible all the time. Together with the top two fields customisable, you would have 5 relevant fields on the climbpro page.
  • Elevation data (asc remain and colored sections)
Hope this will be better with the GPS update, because I was often on steep section of a climb when on the screen I was supposed to go downhill... Asc remain was also not correct in many cases.

@garmin-matthew: any chance these requests can be included in a future release?

  • I would love to see:
    Grade Remain.
The avg grade of the next km (or mile) and not the whole remaining distance...

  • The problem with the avg grade remaining for me is that I do not have the impression that it will be an accurate figure. In that case I prefer just the indication of the colored sections and have an additional data-field instead. Just by looking ahead and monitoring my power output, I already get a good impression of what grade I am currently on and what is in my line of sight.

  • I like these road signs and I know what to 'prepare' for on the next 1000m ;-)

but only the major routes are marked like this in the alps... so I'd like a little help from Garmin in that department :-)

  • I know this is an old post, but since the changes requested haven't been made... I would like to see the above changes too.  I barely even noticed the section showing which climb (5/11) you're on... as OP said, basically a waste of space once climb starts.

On my bigger climbing days climbpro (which is great) will be my main screen I look at for most of the ride and two fields just isn't enough.  I'd much rather have current grade than grade remaining.  I know it is possible to write a Connect IQ app to either cycle between fields or show multiple values within one field, but it'd be cleaner to just have it work without an additional CIQ app.

I think for me even a two field, colorized, terrain profile (like in the navigation screen) would be enough for climbpro and have the rest of the datafields available for other info.  Or have the option to add the two-field colorized terrain profile to a non-climbpro screen.

Another option I would love is the ability to set the terrain grade color ranges myself.  The default colors are a little rough for me as a color-blind person.  I don't expect this feature will ever exist, but it'd be really nice.

I haven't looked into what is available with the "virtual partner", but having a subset of the whole ride "virtual partner" and one for just the current climb would be nice.  It'd be great to be able to race the VP per climb as well as for the course.

    Thanks!

  • I appreciate that lots of people like climbpro but it does nothing for me, all I really want is the boring old standard Elevation screen to have user definable vertical / y-axis scaling , its been two years since 530 release and this is a big big glaring omission and can't really be all that hard to do given that the 830 has it and the UI would be the same as the current 530 map zoom / pan functionality, come on Garmin!, get with it.

  • How is the "boring old standard Elevation screen" different from the elevation screen available? I'm pretty sure garmin doesn't really read these feature requests though because lots of people want to have a workout display the notes between intervals and that hasn't been added in like 2-3 years and it is basically one-line of code to add it... Another big omission (imo).

  • Another request - in night mode, please change the position marker to a light colour.  It is currently almost impossible to see.
