“Sync failed - Device Connection Error”

I cannot get my new Garmin 530 to upload rides to my iPhone. Forgetting devices on both the Garmin & iPhone and repairing doesn’t work.  At my wit’s end here—this is the second most basic thing that the Garmin does after recording the ride in the first place.  Someone please help so that I don’t have to wait until I’m back from the Intelligentsia Cup and at my computer to upload my rides!

  • Wish I could be of help however I wanted you to know you are not alone. I updated my 530 to the 3.55 beta after too many crashes on version 3.50 and today after my first ride on version 3.55 I can not upload my ride when I returned home. What I determined was I needed to only have one upload path active at a time, I had both WiFi and Bluetooth on so I turned Bluetooth off this allowed the ride to upload successfully. However now whenever I open my Garmin connect app on my iPhone I get the same error as you described. My device can not sync with big red exclamation mark. I have tried to unpair / re pair / forget WiFi and add WiFi / delete device / install device. But no change the 530 still show unable to sync, the error message says my device is busy and to try again later. What is it busy doing? It has been busy now for the 6 hours without the possibility of syncing must be an intense thought to keep it busy  for so long

This is so annoying, oh well so much for my Edge 530 I guess it’s back to using my trusty old Fenix 5 until the software gets sorted out and stable.

  • Anyone from Garmin have anything to say on this or should I call in?  This is pretty basic functionality that seems totally broken on the 530...

  • I was also getting this error with the 3.55 beta.  I decided to unpair my 530 from my iPhone 8 and now when I try and re-pair it fails.

I then tried reverting firmware back to 3.50 and also up to 3.57 and even after Factory Resets the Edge won't pair with my iPhone.

I also tried uninstalling and re-installing the Garmin Connect phone app which was annoying as I then had to repair my Edge 1000, 1030 and Forerunner 945 which all worked but still, the 530 won't pair.

  • GARMIN WHERE ARE YOU GUYS ON THIS?!

Ready to get rid of the 530 and buy a Wahoo, enough already!

  • Thought that maybe I alone was having g this issue. Looks like I was wrong. This is pretty abysmal from Garmin, and a very, very basic feature which needs to fixed ASAP, otherwise it’s not for for purpose.

  • I had the very same issue, then I followed the suggestions as described here: https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?faq=9BcXLSQ4A22gasLarkUvH6 and hey presto, it works fine!!

  • I stupidly keep buying new Garmin units hoping each new iteration finally fixes the constant Bluetooth connectivity/sync issues the previous ones suffered from.  After a 3 day weekend of nothing but issues and frustration with my new 530, I ordered a new Wahoo.  I’m done with Garmin.  Syncing a ride should not involve a 12 step process of unpairing/repairing, turning off the phone/GPS, etc.  This is basic functionally that Garmin hasn’t gotten right in years.  I haven’t been able to ride with the 530 connected to my phone and the app running since I bought it... the 530 constantly connects and disconnects during the ride, which is super annoying and defeats the whole purpose of all of the connected features.  Either the interface or the unit itself is just hot garbage and I’m done being frustrated EVERY TIME I RIDE with this awful device.  Bye, Felicia.

  • I did just that.  I’m done with Garmin.  New software updates every few weeks and the same issues remain. Everyone I know with a Wahoo loves them because they just work.

  • Did you get a reply from Garmin?  I have exactly the same issue and tried all the option pair, re-pair, remove device, turn wifi on/off and nothing is working.  The rides are on the device I can’t get them in the app or phone
