Route color will not change

I've been uploading routes from Trailforks and downloading them to my Edge 530. After downloading I jump into the options for the course and change the course color to light green but for some reason when I actually launch the route it's always purple. Why isn't it changing? If it makes any difference I am not launching the routes from Trailforks but rather I am creating them on Trailforks.com, navigating to the Trailforks connectIQ app on my Edge 530 and downloading the route. I then back out to the main screen and go into navigation, edit the color of the route then launch it with my mountain profile but every single route is purple. I want it green so I can see it better.

  • The color you are selecting is used when the route isn't being used for navigation.

The color for routes being used for active navigation is always magenta (it can't be changed).

  • why won’t Garmin change the route line to red at night in a built up area it’s impossible to read . And it’s been going on for years

  • The magenta route (even here you'll have to look for it) is indistinguishable from the surrounding roads. Tat brown highway and the magenta route look the same on the tiny 530's screen.

  • Same question here. I wonder if it is that difficult to make the track colors and routing user configurable.

And: who the heck made the decision for that magenta...

No color is going to be without problems. In this case, it's really the use of a "similar" color for roads.

Garmin characteristically uses an all magenta line for the calculated route. This works fine (remember, nothing is going to be perfect) on units like those used in cars. There are going to be more issues with colors on small screens too (on a big screen, the areas the colors occupy will make it easier to distinguish between "similar" colors).

The Edges are somewhat unique because they also use tracks for navigation. Thus, there has to be some way to distinguish the track line from the calculated line but also indicate that they are both active for navigation.

The all-magenta line is the calculated route. The track line is magenta with black borders. It's thinner than the calculated route. The history line is cyan (and it's even thinner than the other two). All this is by design and deliberated (but it won't ever be perfect).

Garmin recently added a feature to be able to change the history line from cyan to some other color.

I believe the color used for active navigation can be changed on some units (but it's unusual).

  • Yes, you are right. No color is without problems, so customizing wouls be the best approach. The magenta line very often is the worst decision, when it comes to contrast.

In general the Software module for changing colors is available, the track colors can be changed. So why not set up the route color in the same way?

  • It's not clear that magenta is "often the worst decision".

The issue seems to be that the magenta is kinda close to other colors used on the map for some features. Especially, the color used for highways on the Garmin Cycle maps. Garmin didn't always use that color for highways.

Another way to fix the magenta problem is to change the color used in the map.

Obviously, it's not hard to allow people to change the color used (rather than magenta).

Garmin may not want to change it because there's value in having it standard across all the units.

    =========================

People have been asking for this for years. And Garmin is clearly very reluctant to change it.

While is OK to keep asking, people are more likely just going to have to live with it.
