Flimsy speed

Strange that the latest Edge ( 530 ) performs inferior to other older Edge models... The other day we rode in TT style over the same route, and the included picture should show the obvious problem.

This is really disappointing, along with the poor tracking ability as mentioned here :  https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/cycling/f/edge-530/166694/gps-accuracy

(as we met for the ride at one point, but had different distance to the meeting point will explain the different km's shown, but same segment)  all 3 rides purely GPS based speed.

  • What GPS version are you running and what satellite system(s) are you using?

GPS speed is directly related to GPS accuracy, without accuracy your speed will be all over the place.

even with reasonably accurate GPS, I would always recommend getting a speed sensor

  • I know about the speed sensor, but I've been using several Garmins from since the Edge 305, and never really found it necessary... The Edge 800 in the picture is mine too (but used by my son on this occasion) and gives a nice speed reading , and no speed sensor either.

Hooked to GPS+Glonass and running the

GPS Chipset Type S1 (3107) software version 2.42 Beta

On screen the 530 states full satellite signal and 3 m precission.
