elevation stops recording partway through

I've been riding with a new Edge 530 for a few weeks. For several rides, I get elevation profiles like the one here, where it stops updating elevation after some point, sometimes until the end of the ride, or once it did this and was just flat for a while and then started again.

The device shows reasonable elevation while riding, and a reasonable total ascent / descent, which also shows in the stats on that page, so it doesn't seem like a sensor problem.

Is this a known bug?

Mine did/does the same thing. Garmin sent a replacement after the first one had the same issue along with sticky button problems and issues with syncing and uploading rides. The first couple of rides with the new one were fine but the last 3 rides it seems to have reverted back to bad profile recording - does the same thing you describe jshute

I have the same problem!

The elevation graphics during the ride are fine. Summary of up down are fine.

But recorded elevation and shown elevation during the ride get stuck on some value

On your next ride could you switch auto-pause off and let us know how the elevation works.

What is auto-pause currently set to?

There were a lot of auto-pause events (138) and I think that may be messing the data up.

Yes, auto-pause is on and set to a threshold of 0.3 km/h.

I have switched it off now.

Will report back tomorrow. BTW today it occurred again.

Same here, happened to me twice on two different 530 units (one was on 3.5 firmware, another is on 4.1). Interestingly though, total ascent/descent is correct, so I assume that there is something wrong with how 530 writes to fit file. Here is original recording from yesterday, auto-pause was off, no manual stops either.

Today's recording seems to be fine. The actual elevation data during the ride was way off though and contradictory to the recording.

I attach the recording and a screenshot from about km 9. It shows an elevation of 2754 m while the highest point in the recording is - correctly - about 2500m. Further on the VAM is 1480 m/h, which is way higher than my actual climbing speed. At that point I would estimate it at about 400-600m/h.

In one ride the device lost the satellites and did not recover from it. Had to do a soft reset to get it going again.

BTW the elevation problem survived a Reset to Factory a week ago.
